An ashtray is a container designed to hold tobacco ashes, and incidentally cigarette and cigar butts.

The best-known small-scale models are for domestic use. However, there are also larger models, called "outdoor ashtrays", which can be placed on the ground or fixed to a wall (in public places, airports, etc).
