September 15 is International Dot Day, created to encourage and celebrate creativity in the classroom. Peter H. Reynolds' childrens book The Dot inspired the day and tells the tale of Vashti, a girl who thinks she can't draw, who is challenged by her teacher to "just make your mark and see where it takes you". In the late 2000s, real life teacher Terry Shay brought this book to his class, an act which soon spread to classrooms across the world.
