Species: virginia opossum
The Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana), commonly known as the North American opossum, is a marsupial found in North America. It is the only marsupial found north of Mexico. It is one of the most well known species of possum in popular American media, often associated with the American southeast as well as with hillbillies. Like raccoons, they are often associated with urban environments, being scavengers of garbage and living close to human society.
They have a distinctive visual appearance: grayish coats of fur that darken towards their feet, white or lighter colored faces and/or upper torsos, hairless prehensile tails, and hairless toes. They also often have mottled, black and pink hairless ears.
