Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

I'm in support of the implication itself. However, we currently have three tags for "the words that indicate sounds": onomatopoeia, sound_effects and sound_effect. Sound_effects is by far the most used, and is a lot easier to spell, remember and less obscure than onomatopoeia. I know some people love that word, but I think in this case sound_effects makes for the better tag.
So how would people feel about: aliasing sound_effect and onomatopoeia to --> sound_effects, and then implicating zzz to --> sound_effects ?

Onomatopoeia is not same as sound_effects. It's specifically for sound effects that are actual words.
Here's one good example:

Some users find those inexplicably annoying, so it probably shouldn't be aliased. Implication would be good though.

Ah, I did not know that. Alright, so it's looking like implicating onomatopoeia to --> sound_effects and implicating zzz to --> sound_effects would be the best way to handle it. How does that sound?

Sounds like a good way of handling these, though I tend to use sound_effects for when there is a ridiculous amount of them, but that's just me.
I occasionally see older posts with tags like whump, brrrrt, splurkt, etc. but they're so underused and variably spelled that I've just been removing them (also, who the hell is going to search for whump? I mean really...). I'll start adding sound_effects to those instead of just removing them.

Maybe the sound effect wiki page should avoid saying "(e.g. writing multiple 'z's to denote someone sleeping)" then

Yeah, since we have a "standardized" amount of z's that's probably for the best. I tweaked the page to reflect this thread an I'll look into any tags that are consistently used for sound effects. If anybody has suggestions I'd love to hear them, otherwise I'll see if I can't find some old superhero comics for ideas.
