Topic: gender Otherkind ? (Furoticon)

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Noticed some furoticon art posted at e621 that show what are apparently another gender: Otherkind.

http://wiki.furoticon.com/wiki/How_to_Play says
"There are four genders in Furoticon: Male, Female, Herm, and Otherkind,"

Don't see an explanation at Furoticon website about otherkind.

Not sure if there should be an otherkind tag at e621.

Some otherkind cards posted to e621:

Phebia (Otherkind according to http://furoticon.com/viewcard.php?c=820 )

Daeven (Otherkind according to http://furoticon.com/viewcard.php?c=815 )

Scorchcrag (Otherkind according to http://furoticon.com/viewcard.php?c=531 )

I don't know what otherkind means, but we use TWYS) for tagging genders, and not what's claimed.

It's spelled "otherkin" further down the page...

The genders are, from top to bottom, Male (Blue), Female (Red), Hermaphrodite (Purple), and Otherkin (Yellow). Otherkin includes exotic creatures and genders, including: Intersex, transvestites, genderless Furres, plants, robots, cuntboys, tentacles, demons, incubi, succubi, ferals, and all other exotic and fantastic beings.

He's just a little confused about Furoticon's genders.

Here on e621, we use not only the aforementioned Tag What You See rule, but we also use different genders than Furoticon. Furoticon simplifies its genders into Male, Female, Herm, and Otherkind. We use male, female, herm, maleherm, dickgirl, cuntboy, nullo, and ambiguous_gender. The Otherkind class of cards is simply a catch-all class that is not a standard Male, Female, or Herm. Think of it as a Miscellaneous. We have 8 or 9 genders because reasons. Thus, Otherkind does not apply to us.

Considering how broad "Otherkin" is (as Munkelzahn listed above), it wouldn't be very useful for searching (since it apparently also uses species as a determining factor).

I assume Otherkin is part of a 4-element rule set that makes more sense in Furoticon's setting than most other places.

I remember back in the day when we had FIVE "elements".

otherkin is not a gender. its more like a spiritual belief. the term they are using is incorrect for this.

Hi there! This is Seppel, lead developer of Furoticon! :)

It appears that you found some very old language that still remained on the site. I've fixed it. :)

We've learned a lot since the beginning of developing an adult-rated card game, and you can read all about it here: http://furoticon.com/index.php?a=872

Basically, the game started out as a fun joke. Then, once we amassed a large fanbase, we realized that we were alone in our market -- we had the choice to either walk away and leave it as a joke, or press forward as a pioneer of sexually-inclusive adult gaming. We took that challenge head-on, and we've come so far from where we began! This year, at Gen Con, one of the largest gaming conventions in the world, we fully stocked our booth and sold out of everything we brought!

Making an adult game comes with a lot of issues you need to address, both societal and sexual. Anyone can take the easy path and make an adult game full of rape, violence, and growing 20 horsecocks. It's also staggeringly easy to appeal to only the cis-het crowd. The real challenge is in going above and beyond.

Furoticon is non-violent, and all acts depicted are 100% consensual. We're the first adult game to experience lasting mainstream success, and hopefully we're not the last.

My thanks go out to all our supporters. We couldn't have done it without all of you!

-Seppel

P.S.: If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask!
