I'm looking for suggestions and opinions on a set of leg-related tags. I recognize this is long; please bear with me. This deals with the following tags:
== On 100+ posts ==
== On 10-100 posts ==
- tail_around_leg
- leg_hug
- arm_around_leg
- hugging_legs
- grabbing_leg
- grabbing_legs
- fetal_pose
- fetal_position
- knees_pulled_up
== On <10 posts ==
- hand_on_legs
- hugging_leg
- leg_hold
- arm_around_legs
- lifted_by_legs
- legs_wrap
- legwrap
- leg_grabs
- leg_wrapped_around
- legs_around
Overview
First, let's go over what has been established:
leg_grab is described as gripping someone else's leg or legs at the ankle, calf, or knee (as distinct from thigh_grab).
holding_leg is described as a character holding their own leg or legs.
hand_on_leg is described as a hand is resting on a character's leg - and going by the wiki, it appears to be intended for poses, rest-places, and other such things as independent from either holding_leg or leg_grab. I am unsure whether it should be restricted to the character's own hand. (One way or another, there is a lot of mistagging under this particular tag.)
leg_wrap refers to one character holding another by wrapping their legs around them; it appears to be used primary for missionary-and-related positions and the occasional wrestling move.
And then we have the "curled up" bunch. curled_up refers to limbs being pulled into the center of one's form, and the wiki page says to also tag fetal_pose if the spine is curved forward and head is tucked in. knees_pulled_up is arguably independent, but directly related.
Many of the lesser tags are redundant with the above, but there are a few further things that are frequently being described, notably under leg_hug: First, the act of wrapping one's arm or arms entirely around a leg to hold it as frequently seen in leg_glider_position. Second, the act of holding onto someone's leg while sprawled out next to them, as per post #1260931 or post #177613.
Suggestions
I'll be using → to mean aliasing. First, the big one:
holding_legs is entirely redundant despite having over three-hundred posts; it's composed mostly of a mix of holding_leg and leg_grab; I suspect it also sounds like the most likely thing someone tags if they aren't familiar with those two tags. So, I'm suggesting it be turned into a disambiguation tag. Same goes for leg_hug, which variously refers to holding a leg with an arm, hugging up against a character's lower leg, and even leg_wrap. It could be argued that the two should use the same disambiguation page, or at least mention each other.
Now, for a few easy ones:
- grabbing_legs → holding_legs_(disambiguation)
- leg_hold → holding_legs_(disambiguation)
- arm_around_legs → holding_legs_(disambiguation)
The reasoning should be fairly obvious for most of them. The first one is suggested based on present use I suggest aliasing to the proposed disambiguation page for the last three due to ambiguity.
Further Issues
This leaves a few questions:
- What should the tag be for clinging to a character's leg?
- Do we want a tag to distinguish holding one's own leg or legs with one's arms rather than one's hands?
- Do we want a tag for grabbing someone else's leg or legs with one's arms rather than one's hands?
- Do any of these imply curled_up or knees_pulled_up?
The answers to these might change some of the above, as well determine what is to be done with tags like arm_around_leg and hugging_leg.
Lastly, for completion: leg_glider_position does not always imply leg_grab, but it may be wise to mention the latter (or the arm-based equivalent) on the former's page and vice-versa. I have no idea what to do with lifted_by_legs. If there's a related bondage tag or position tag, it could probably use an aliasing. While tail_around_leg likely doesn't need any changes, it could be argued to be grab-related; perhaps a note on its wiki page.
Aside, any advice for formatting further forum posts is welcome. :P
