Topic: character tag chaos

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

ok, this is really starting to get annoying. are we going to have to start adding _(character owners name here) to every character with a common irl name? i mean, really, it seems to be pretty common that i add or check a character tag and the name is spread across numerous different characters all unrelated to each other.

post #853684 which i uploaded earlier (forgot the character names and source link. oops) has 2 characters by the name of joshua (the cow cub with...interesting balls) and scotty (skunk cub). it's another pic codyfox commisioned so should i add _(codyfox) to the tags? i don't think it's the first time i would have had to do this.

joshua in this pic now falls into the search results of zen's character, the tiger named joshua. as for scotty, he seems to be one of several different characters as seen here

I'll keep that information in mind. I've done a few corrections like that to posts before.

Well, yes. I thought this was common procedure already. Any time you find a common name, it must be disambiguated. I follow these steps:

  • Always check sources for characters and their owners.
  • Always check e621 for existing names.
  • If multiple characters exist with the same name, disambiguate and add suffixes accordingly.

The longer an ambiguous name/tag goes ignored, the bigger a mess it becomes. If all of this isn't in a wiki somewhere, I will add it myself.

There's a current ambiguous tags thread over at forum #185266.

alright, i'll remember to do that and i was unaware of that thread. that's a long list of character tags over there and i do see a fair number of common names there as well.
