To know if sex depicted is anal rather than vaginal, the anus is visible.

Not always. If the individual has a penis and penetration is occurring, but you can't see if they are a herm then it's generally assumed anal...even though you see no anus.

You you may see the vagina and that penetration is taking place further back. Again, anal without seeing an anus. Or a vine that is slipped in between buttcheeks, but they're pressed together tightly enough you can't see the actual anus.

Too many exceptions for this implication to work.

It won't work. Characters can be viewed from the frontand you wouldn't be able to tell if they're being penetrated in whichever hole.

For that ambiguous_penetration is a thing.

Situation:
Male being penetrated, view point is from the front, not showing rear end, tagging issue arises where anus is tagged and unremoveable despite no anus visible.

-1 for the same reason why vaginal wasn't implicated to pussy.
You can often determine what type of penetration it is, from the angle of penetration. Especially if the one being penetrated is a male.

Also disagree about this one, because like others said, the anus isn't always visible
But just wanted to point out that technically it is in post #659007 linked above, unless transverse longitudinal sections don't count

If so that should be noted somewhere.

anus wiki says, "This tag should be applied to any image in which a character's anus is visible."

Simply no.
Why? Well the answer is simple.

Anus is where it is just visible in the picture/video.

Anal is where if a character in the picture/video is getting penetrated in the butt.
