Is there any way that you could add a border to thumbnails that means that the image is in a pool?

I hesitate to use borders because they are currently used for post status. I think that multiplexing the border colors for other purposes would make things very confusing.
Perhaps a "PL" in the little status indicator line where comments/score/rating go?

I think I'd like this but I think ultimately it might not get added as its easy to click on picture and notice its in a pool.
Though now that I think about this could be an unexpected boon. Seeing thumbs of comics pages missing from their intended pool but for some reason weren't added to it.
But the question will be what color will it be? Purple maybe?

Actually that could be a lot better.

ST would also be helpful, but only if it's in a public set. A number following the abbreviations could tell just how many it's a part of, as well.

I'd certainly prefer the status indicator over the border color.
Given that only one border color can be in place at a time, doing it that way would also mean figuring out which of the others should be above/below it in priority.

Yeah, please, no more border colors.
For instance, red_border is terribly distracting. I keep thinking that those are flagged whenever I see them on thumbnails.

why not use a corner ribbon icons(similar to FA' ribbons that distinguish flash/music,images and writen works) instead?
A problem with adding it as extra information on the status hoverbox is that most mobile phones and some other touchscreen devices do not have functionality of displaying information thru hovering.
adding that the propose is to make it visible without having to open the post entry so it would make more sence to use something that all users are able to see.

Mobile mode could just stick icons under the image, similar to the ♥ for favorites, while standard (non-mobile) browsing would use the hover mode?
