Topic: Anthro Pokemon and the Anthrofied/Pokemorph tag

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I recently noticed that some of my posts got the anthrofied and pokémorph tags added to them recently. Problem is for these tags to be used, the pukaymun in question has to have its design morphed into something more anthro, which is easier to see for any one of them that are not anthro by design, but it seems these tags are inadvertently used on Pokemon that are anthro already. From what I noticed, at least on my uploads, those are still very close to their original designs but they have sum bewbs added to them, so that may be why these tags got added for them, but even here I don't think they "deserve" to get the Pokemorph tag because beside having melons on their chests now their physiology is still the same as the original.

That's what I have in mind when I think for a Pokemon that's already anthro if it is a Pokemorph or not :

Not Anthrofied/Pokemorph, but still considered anthro (design/proportions are unchanged, she only got boobs added)
For other cases

Anthrofied/Pokemorph
post #796213
Anthrofied, but not Pokemorph
post #902011
Pokemorph, but not anthrofied
post #912125

Also to note that the wiki description for Pokémorph isn't what I would call a good one because it implies that any anthro Pokemon is a Pokemorph, even if they're drawn on their "feral" design like Gardevoir and Lopunny.

Pokemorph is one of the oldest tags on this site, and it was largely replaced by the anthrofied tag.

So I'm not entirely sure what purpose it serves now, and if it should be kept.

Sure, it might be useful for specifically searching for anthrofied pokemon (debatable because of the mistags, it doesn't work much better than anthrofied pokemon). But other popular franchises don't have similar tags. Unless ponified is counted as a kind of mlpmorph tag.

I would believe that the pokemorph tag is worth keeping for searching images of Pokémon that are not normally anthropomorphic (as long as used correctly), such as post #560539 and post #821216.

I mean, we have multiple versions for the alternate_species tag, such as dragonification, furrification, and ponification.

If anything, the Pokémon anthro/feral tagging may need some clean up, especially pokemon that are tagged as anthro but appear more like feral bipeds.

Does the pony always have to be feral for it to count? If not, then I take back what I said above.

Technically no, but for whatever reason it rarely gets tagged otherwise.

I added two cases about this issue for directions/suggestions :

- Anthrofied, but not Pokemorph
- Pokemorph, but not anthrofied

The wiki says that Pokemorph is an anthrofied Pokemon, but I feel like the two terms can be mutually exclusive in some cases like for the examples I pointed out

The wiki says that Pokemorph is an anthrofied Pokemon

It was written long before the creation of the humanoid tag. Used to be valid, but no longer is. It's on my to-do list, but I haven't found time to update the wiki.

And that's partly because nobody seems sure about exactly how pokemorph should be tagged. The most common definition is that they are anthropomorphic pokemon, but that overlaps with pokemon anthrofied. And it's debatable whether humanoidized pokemon count as pokemorphs.
