Topic: [Feature] Edit tags directly from the master tag list

Requested feature
Allow priviliged+ users to rename low-count tags directly from the master tag list.

Why would it be useful?
It would make it easier and faster to fix simple typos. Over 65% of the tags we have are only used once or twice, and large chunk of those are typos. Example: https://e621.net/tag?name=b*lck_*&show_empty_tags=1. Being able to fix those directly from the list would take far less work than browsing to the post (especially if it turns out to be on a deleted post) and editing it there.

As long as it's restricted to low-count tags (used 5 times or less?) and to higher ranking users, it'd be unlikely to be abused.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?

Make it a privileged and up, and make me a privileged, and you got a deal!

(Mostly) kidding aside, this is a great idea. I have a backlog of false tags that need to be aliased into something else or just cleaned out, and having some people who can do this (not implying just me) would obviously make it easier for fixing tags. As for who could do it, janitor or up. I honestly think we should have higher rank just for fixing tags, working on image statuses, and possibly alias/implications. But, most of what's said is a janitor's job, so janitor it is!

I forsee this being a complicated change. Tags are currently locked to a single name that cannot be changed. Would be very... interesting to implement renaming in the current codebase.

I may have put too much emphasis on 'renaming'.
Having an easier method for moving posts from one tag to an another would suffice.

For example, 'renaming' balck_hair to black_hair would simply untag balck_hair from the posts that have the tag, and replace it with the black_hair tag instead.

so like

an alias

No. More like a less time-consuming way of tag scripting -balck_hair black_hair, directly from the master tag list.

I was thinking that it'd be more like an accessible tag script (accessible meaning I don't know how to make/use one). It's still a great idea.

Seems like a sound idea.

Speaking of tags on a site wide scale, I guess I'll post these again:
http://i.imgur.com/YdTcC7D.png
http://i.imgur.com/L5w4voQ.png (capped at 250 posts/tag)

To right of black lines means:

  • Left < 10 posts/tag
  • Middle < 5 posts/tag
  • Right = 1 post/tag

from memory a user made a script to do this https://e621.net/wiki/show/tagging_greasemonkey_script Seems not to work but looks like in the wrong hands could do allot of damage

I just skimmed it, but that looked horrible for anyone to use :S

Definitely sounds like a good idea. Really it would just be a weaker, more-specific version of mass edit (Search: balck_hair, Remove tags: balck_hair, Add tags: black_hair). In fact, it could even use the existing mass edit API!

If this is actually a viable idea, I'm all for it! Right now I only really bother changing typos (or low-numbered tags that refer to the same thing we already have a tag for) if I just happen to come across them, but surely I'd do a lot more mass clean-up work if doing so was a streamlined experience instead of the current ordeal.

I also like everything that gives me more powah ᕕ(⊙w⊙)ᕗ

I'd just like to restate that this would be extremely useful. There's so many small typos that it's impossible to keep up with them without extra tools. It'll only keep getting worse if nothing changes.

Just look at the list of new tags: https://e621.net/tag?name=&type=0&order=date&show_empty_tags=1

Mountrain, eyebrow_rase, eye_rise, english_trext, invertrd_nipples, hi_res., gey_skin, cadling, ureatral_insertion, prekum, multipele_images, looking_at«-viewer, membraous_wigns, grdient_hair, com_on_ear, reverse_gangbanng, hadrblush, predator-prew_prelations, stading_69...

+1. I go through and fix single tags sometimes but it's slow.

+1 for the medium term.
Long term, fuzzy tag auto-completion (at least for the N most used tags) would prevent a lot of the typoes from happening in the first place.

also

looking_at«-viewer

How do you even insert « accidentally? copy-paste mistake?
