Topic: Unknown Artist tag

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Just noticed there are thousands of posts tagged without an artist (tagged Unknown Artist). Some of these posts are even 9 years old and still haven't been fixed.

I think we should work to find the artists that created the images. But I haven't done much tagging myself, so I would appreciate any help anyone can give.

I believe this should be an ongoing project until we reduce the number of posts tagged Unknown Artist to just hundreds. Obviously this a big job, which again, is why some help is needed.

Thanks

Edit: some of the posts tagged are just memes etc so don't necessarily need/have an artist. But some art is still tagged Unknown Artist, it is these we should source and fix.

The ones from 9 years ago... chances are several people tried to find out, and couldn't.

It already is a project, and just like *_(disambiguation) tagging, it is more spur of the moment. It is not easy to find and source to an artist, and if the image is old then there is a greater chance of not being to find out either, since their art style may have changed, their source may no longer exist, and in both cases people may not remember exactly "who," or "where", or "when, because they may not have known "who", and "where" was one of those shitty hentai sites, and "when" was back when those sites were commonly used to avoid making accounts.

Memes don't really "have" artists; it is not like you can go far enough and source it to the first person who made them or get proof that they are the ones who made it, and not just reposted it (which happens surprisingly a lot).

There wasn't a need to say what is already known, and there is already a forum to announce tagging projects. You already acknowledge that this won't be easy, and that should speak for itself. This is definitely not a case of "say it so, master, and it'll be done", and people have already been doing it... if you are willing to acknowledge that you haven't done much tagging, then please understand that a lot, if not all, tagging projects are long run until solutions are offered.

Ok, thanks

Since you responded before the pain in my ass (feel free to take that literally or metaphorically) went away, here is the forum about tagging projects.

I'll also leave you my source tools, and I assume you know of the four reverse searches at the bottom of that whole side menu:

Tin-eye is good for finding DeviantArt and certain others, but usually only helps with safe images.
IQDB isn't much of a help, unless the image is predominantly human because it searches through more anime/human sites, but it does give you the option to reverse google and SAUCENAO after searching, along with the aforementioned Tin-eye.

i go by the reverse image search methods myself and a good number of times the results point back to e621, either of the 2 rule34 sites, random blogs, random tumblr bogs (or tumblex which doesn't help and pinterest which...why even bother with pinterest at all?). sometimes there simply isn't any artist info to be found at all...or source info. kinda hard to find an artist name when theres not one to be found anywhere.

could try ibsearch.xxx but i don't know if you can do a image search instead of tag search on it. it covers at least half a dozen different sites.

There are plenty of things you can use to find images creators. or at least there oldest known upload.

But yeah I hate when it has the "unknown author"
tag lol
