Not all gauges are limited to the ears, they can be found on the lips as well as on membranes like membranous wings and in some cases there are gauges even in the cheeks...

Suggestion: Change hierarchy to

• piercing
• gauge_piercing
• gauged_ear

gauged_fin
etc

Then have these implicate the related piercing type (furry-specific, ear, etc). Disambiguate gauge, gauges, plugs, (flesh_tunnel too?) for any cases of measuring gauges or earplugs.

seems pretty sound thru at the moment it would seem a bit redundant to make individual tags for something that is likly to only be found in 2-3 posts... clearly not all gauges are for the ears but some of them i also dont see as having enough prevalence to get their own tag rather then just being grouped collectively under gauge_piercings

Is a valid point.

I) But all those "gauges" have specific names: respectively: compound nautic atmospheric measurer (hygrometer + thermometer + barometer), analogue thermometer , altimeter , anemometer display .

II) Additionally, all these are also called "gages".

probably because "gouge" does not refer to use of inset rings to create and sustain holes in walls of flesh as a form of body modification.

gouge refers to a type of chisel as well as a groove or indentation that is created by gouging(scooping/ scraping out)

properly gauges as they are used here are called flesh tunnels thou gauge likly came into usage as it commonly denotes the measured size of the ring that sustains the flesh tunnel. Gauge is also a measurement for the thickness of wire as well as size of studs

Gauges refer to the size of a tunnel or plug, they are not jewelry themselves. Any body jewelry would therefore be a "gauge". :V

No idea where that term came from other than "lol it big so call it something about size???" or something equally dumb.
