Reason:

Rouge and Rogue are easily mistaken words.
Why the hell she is officially named "Reddish color the bat" instead of "Thief the bat" is beyond me, though, considering she legit is a thief treasure hunter.

She's called Rouge because she wears makeup. Rouge is a type of makeup.

Wasn't her name pronounced with a hard "Gue" in the cartoons and games, though?

Because "Rogue" is an awful name even by Sonic standards.

Rouge is an actual French name, the same as the English name Scarlet and the Japanese name Akane.

First off I just wanna say...great alias, surprised it hasn't already been made.

Secondly, I just decided to look up a sonic cartoon on YouTube and at least in this one they are definitely calling her "Rouge" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=040AXQo7XpM&feature=youtu.be&t=1m17s
