Topic: Examples for the scale of fatness

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So there is a Wiki about the scale of fatness that I know about for a while now. The problem is I still can't really make up what to use as a tag even with the descriptions given there. I try to look for some examples within each of their own tags, and except for the very obvious morbid_obese, I still can't figure out because most of the pictures' fatness are very different from each other within the tag, so since then I simply use the tag chubby for everything I upload that is fat.

A picture example on the Wikis would greatly help me (and maybe many others) for tagging fatness and would be appreciated and makes tagging for that much easier and less cumbersome

From what I've seen, a lot of people think the tags run like this:

Which...they sort of do in practice. The problem is implication-wise they are actually designed to run with this model:

  • chubby - A little thick here and there. Maybe a small "gut" but the majority of the body structure is fairly similar to a non-chubby person.
  • overweight - A blanket tag for obesity. Shouldn't be used by itself.
    • obese - Obese without being absurdly obese.
      • morbidly obese - Obese enough that even really fat people know your health is being affected. Also used for "hyper fat"

Personally, I look at it:

Fat distribution by gender

This should be expanded, but this picture gives a pretty rough idea: http://i.imgur.com/92NarxH.jpg

Chubby

A little thick here and there. Maybe a small "gut" but the majority of the body structure is fairly similar to a non-chubby person.

In human terms I'd say most would fall under 100 kg (220 lbs) depending on height.

Overweight

This tag is really hard to define.

Note that this doesn't count the butt, which can be huge (even in some skinny people) regardless of weight. I would probably start tagging obese after I hit "Santa fat".

This tier is the hardest to judge in terms of weight because it is hugely dependent on height. 90-135 kg (200-300 lbs) would be a pretty broad estimate.

Obese

Fat in torso doesn't go past the shoulders. Small rolls in the places you would expect. Fat in torso still shouldn't go past the shoulders in most cases.

In human terms, most will fall within 125-175 kg (275-385 lbs).

Morbidly obese

"Jabba the Hut fat", "Hyper fat". Has trouble walking, or can't walk. Rolls in places you didn't even know existed.

Disclaimer: I don't use the tags very often and I don't search for them. If someone has better examples feel free I'd love to see them.

Seems like I misused the chubby tag for almost everything I uploaded before, but now that I got actual consistent examples here, it makes the whole tagging process easier to differentiate and I feel confident enough not to only use the chubby tag only anymore !

This looks pretty good. I'm wondering if we could get this on the wiki? Because I think many people would find this helpful as a reference and it might reduce confusion for which fat-related tag to use for what levels of body fat. This has both a description, a couple pictures, and a technical reference for each one, so it is helpful to a wide variety of people. Thanks for pulling it together, Parasprite!

I have a few tweaks I want to make first, but I should be able to get it up within the next day or so.

That sounds perfectly fair and like a great plan. Thank you for tackling it. =)

Reviving my very old topic about overweight characters due to one very small incident on post #1118561

What is the procedure for tagging characters like this Audino that doesn't exactly show obesity on the belly part of the body but does show some flobbiness for the butt and legs ? I would think overweight + thick_thighs would do it even thought I don't particularly find these part overweight-like, but I have no ideas if that should be done that way or not

I can assure you that's not all the perspective's fault. With that much fat, you wouldn't be able to walk, hence morbidly_obese.

I'm sure you don't need to go on every Chansey/Clefairy posts and shout how they're obese looking because of their tubby-like bodies

TWYS, and I really don't. I just tag morbidly obese when I see it.
