Topic: RIP Kitsune's amazing art

Just read a post from Kitsune on inkbunny, man this sucks. Kitsune's art was one of the few things I would always look forward to seeing
"I'm sorry to inform you all, that i've decided to end my patreon. I can no longer do art, i give up. i'll be changing my payment system on the patreon to per submission since i have no idea how else to cancel a patreon without totally disconnecting everything from it and losing access if i ever need it again.

As for doing art at all? i unno, fuck it, i quit.

(hopefully the patreon is only now pay per submission? it says so on my end...)

the last payments that went thru were for the last 5 pages of comic i did, not the next 5, so luckly i dont need to complete any work.

sorry I've let you all down. it was a good 20 years of being in this fandom, closest i've come to happiness"

Jeeze, this seems really sudden, I wonder what happened...

I didn't even know this artist existed until now, but I hope they're doing okay.

im really not fan of their art, but its always a bit sad to see active artist quitting

Updated by anonymous

Oh, you are talking about Kitsune Youkai! I thought you were referring to some other artist named Kitsune...

Well yea, that's incredibly sad.

I kinda expected that it was something to do with Twilight Stormshi. That relationship still seems like it'd be potentially pretty volatile. Hopefully they can work things out so that they can continue in a mostly healthy manner, since, as Kitsu said, they do make a good team and it'd be a shame to see them go.

Actually, looks like they're back.

Well that was a bit of a roller coaster.

I went from thinking I'd never get to see Condom Crusader again to hearing it was indeed going to happen within the span of 10 minutes reading this and looking through the provided links. Fun times.

I'm glad he didn't quit, his work is amazing, I've been his fan for many years but he seems to be under a lot of stress. Like some others already said to him, I'd recommend a long vacation.

It was literally because of this site they were going to leave, you guys know that right?

Where did they say that this site is the reason they were going to quit? They have an account that they have been using to post art to this very site (some even quite recently) https://e621.net/user/show/35746. Meaning that they have actual involvement here.

I thought it had something to do with Twilight Stormshi? Twilight Stormshi is the guy who writes the highest quality translations on this site , but more importantly I believe he wrote the scripts for Kitsune's comics(?) I dunno, I might be spreading false information here...

Yeah, Twilight writes the scripts for Kitsu's comics, pretty sure they also live together (KitsuneYokai, Firecat and TwilightStormshi).

Furthermore, they have a 3-person pseudo-romantic / pseudo-sexual relationship going on which doesn't seem to be reciprocated equally in all vectors; which I'm guessing is the flashpoint for the situation we had here.

You can read about it in Twilight's own words on this journal post from about a month ago as well as the comments below it:

Check the comments and the blowup from their last posted comic here.

Which was right before the Journal went up. The comments and constant, literally years of derision against them on this site were causing kit a lot of stress, which was negatively impacting their relationship.

Its not mental gymnastics, you guys are just mean.

Funny, All I see are a few criticisms, Kitsu being neutral/accepting of them and then a whole lot of Stormshi whiteknighting a little too tryhard as a result.

I don't see a single hint of anythin you're going on about. Definitely some gymnastics going on afterall.

Selective reading to stoke confirmation bias.

i can/do just shrug it all off when it's about me, but when i have to hold and cuddle kit crying for tens of minutes after he reads e621 comments, it's not so easy. it's not the critiques that hurt, at all. i want people to critique, and so does kit. it's how people complain instead of critique. there's no effort put into saying "panini's nose looks weird," and saying "oh but i like your art anyway" just comes off as a virtue signal unless there are reasons explained for that as well.

E621 isn't the problem. The lack of effort put into communication (e.g., reading, understanding, and writing) by the average person is one problem, and the other problem is the artist's fragility when confronting an honest public. The situation would play out the same if the Internet wasn't involved, but the artist could still receive the public's opinions yet be unable to interrogate passers-by to extract useful feedback. Expecting informative, articulate feedback from an honest, untrained public is an unrealistic and misguided path to growth.

The natural overreaction is for-artist communities that shun all negativity and all but the most mealy-mouthed "constructive criticism" (i.e., "hugboxes"), thereby fostering stagnation and bad habits. I really despise this need and expectation some have to smother any critical objections with fountains of praise, as if artists/whoever will crumble if they're not constantly built up. It's spiritless and very unhealthy. Sometimes the most efficient or even the only way to grow is through pain and struggle. You make it a part of yourself and come out stronger and more complete on the other side.

If the grind is too mentally and emotionally draining, just take an indefinite break and come back refreshed when you're ready. Or, after reassessing where you are and your goals, don't come back at all and feel vindicated in your decisiveness. Or make an appearance once in a blue moon. I've stopped doing several things because "I don't need that shit", but I'm making an appearance now.

FWIW, I liked The Babysitter (pool #6456, pool #2975) when it was new, but I'm probably four years behind in checking out Kitsu's art.

No, More like skipping over the ranting, Angry tantrums Stormshi posted. All you have to go on in this instance is Stormshi's word and somehow I get the feeling they were over-exaggerating the issues as Kitsu almost always took the criticism professionally on other works where this happened...

I can't be the only one getting some Jason-type vibes from this, right?

Thought the same, but then I read the comments under each page.

I don't see any major harrassing until Stormshi's comment, even under this page
post #1578279
the people react on a reasonable niveau with their answers.

For the page you mentioned... the only mean person I see so far is Stormshi. The answers are polite, despite the things Twilight wrote. People actually explained their opinions and thoughts, which is kinda rare nowadays.

It had nothing to do with this site, it was because Kit and Twilightstormshi were gonna break up
