  • a lot of these comics are pretty nice but it kinda irks me how the art style makes the characters look like people in mascot suits, not saying that's bad but it's just a little jaring some times. :c

It's definitely a unique style, but I do have to agree. Like, round puffy mascot suits.

Do you think Panini would have looked better if her vagina was drawn scooted up to look more like it's stuck between her legs rather than sorta hanging off her torso?

well, after reading this comments section, i just feel pity for everyone in it (with the exception of dracotay, who posted a normal comment).

some of you have got to relax and realize you're envious, some of you have got to stop trolling on purpose for your thrill or whatever it is you have to tell yourself to justify releasing your anxieties on us, and some of you have got to be more patient with someone who could never afford to go to art school and taught himself to draw this fucking well anyway, way way better than most of your sorry asses. if you can't give criticism more in depth than "the nose looks bad" or "it looks like they're in fursuits," then you need to learn your place, which is back in your crib, where mommy's gonna come soothe you when you're crying.

when someone cares enough about providing you all free art to feel bad he fucked up because of the slightest complaint, and you all continue to complain, you're not gonna have that art for very much longer. and even if that's your goal and you get what you're aiming for, i'm gonna be sitting here laughing at you when you do grow up and everybody hates you, including yourself, for your sorry attitude.

Whoa now, let's step back and relax.

It's true most people don't know art: they only know what they like.

I won't say you shouldn't challenge criticism, it's just these comments mostly are small preferences towards aesthetics and looking through rose-tinted glasses at past nostalgia that people may not be able to help themselves pointing out.

Regardless of everyone's nitpicks, I appreciate the comic, and certainly many here do as well in either a roundabout way or straight forward.

I hope it's not oddly out of bounds for a rando like me to suggest these things in such a way, but this simply is how the internet tends to be most of the time. I won't insist you toughen up, because it's apparent this might have been a long time coming: The struggle of any content creator is for mass appeal after all.

Don't let them get you down.

This felt like its been building up over numerous posts, and i do remember people giving kit crap for his art style for a while now.

Every artist has their own unique style of drawing, yes you guys are providing us essentially free porn an no its not our place to shit on the artist because the style doesnt tickle our preference. Id never bite the hand that feeds me.

To be honest i too see how people view the character designs as "puffy" and "rubbery", but i dont give a shit, its good art regardless.

I'm gonna start with a criticism, or rather, try to explain what I think everyone's criticism is with Panini's nose. Please don't think of this as an attack, as I am offering this up as an honest attempt at constructive feed back. I promise you that I have plenty of nice things to say toward the end of this post.

So as far as Panini's nose is concerned, it is just too long. I went back and looked up some screen shots of her from the show, (I'll admit it's been awhile since I've even thought about it, and my memory has never been that great),
and it looks like her nose is usually drawn somewhere in between a button nose and an animalistic one similar to Chowder's. Basically, a rabbit's nose.

That said, while looking at those same screen shots it is clear how angular it is drawn. My assumption on why the horn shape of her nose in this comic happened is that this really has nothing to do with Kitsune's skills, and more with a simple misunderstanding of the character's design. Combine that with a rough transition from the simplistic/cartoony style from the show to Kitsune's more detailed design, and it wouldn't be difficult to see how her exaggerated nose came about.

All that aside, I'll admit that I didn't actually notice anything until reading the comments for this page. I was just enjoying reading it. Kitsune has become one of my favorite artists in the fandom, and I always get excited when I see a new page of a comic. The Condom Crusader and Rubber Lass comics have become my favorites, but I've been enjoying the artwork posted here since I came across Dragon You Over. Likewise, I enjoy your writing as well. It can get cheesy and campy at times, but I expect nothing else when porn is involved. Even still, the characters are always enjoyable, and I was happy to see the very Chowder-esque meta-humor on the first page.

As for people's comments on the "fursuit like style" of the characters, I kinda noticed it from those earlier comics as well. In my opinion, it's probably just from how chubby and soft the characters are, and people associate. It probably doesn't help that, by their very nature, furry characters have a sort of uncanny valley vibe that comes from them. They are not natural or human, so some minds will probably see certain art styles and just not click all the way. For example, let's take a look at another one of my favorite furry artists, Narse. Narse has great character design and sexy poses, but he tends to draw wrinkles and shines onto his characters that, again while sexy, often end up reminding me of velvet or vinyl. I could spend one moment looking at a pic of his and thinking "Damn that's a fine Growlmon", and the next thinking, "Wait, do I find sleeping bags sexy now?"

So I hope that that doesn't disuade you from creating content. Keep in mind that CarbonNight actually said he liked the comics, and Zanazoth merely noted the style, and never mentioned if he didn't care for it. Keeping in mind that they were here to comment on the comic in the first place, I would assume that they are here because they are fans until they say otherwise.

So please, don't let their comments, or mine, bother you too much. If they enjoy the comics and art as much as I do, but just obsess over certain details, then please don't be angry with them. Wishing them nothing but hate for being nitpicky seems a bit much. If, like you say, their critics lack depth, then don't let them cut so deep. I'm sure it hurts to hear something you both worked very hard on to be pulled apart like that, but lashing out so strongly over something so little will only serve to create a bad reputation. As I've said multiple times already, I really enjoy your work. Hell, I could rant for several posts about how sexy, funny, and charming they are, but that would be creepy, and nobody wants that. So instead, I will just hope that the critiques don't hurt for much longer, and that they will no longer cause pain in the future.

(ps. hope that last part doesn't sound cynical or sarcastic. I tend to sound that way in real life, and text certainly doesn't help in that regard. I truly mean it when I say that I hope such little criticisms don't hurt your enjoyment and dedication toward creating content. I read how Kitsune drew human Lilo, even when it wasn't appealing or comfortable to him, just for the sake of your guys's readers. So I realize that you genuinely do want to please people.)

    Woaaah, calm down there.
I don't think anything on this particular post was shitting on your art or anything. I've always ENJOYED your art.
What you seem to be misunderstanding, however, is when someone enjoy something, they have to FULLY enjoy it.
    That's nothing short of asinine.

Coheed and Cambria is my favorite band, but my god have they made some truly terrible pieces of music from time to time.

Being childish about it and going on a tangent like that, and actively saying we'll grow up and no one will like us is... nothing short of pathetic.

I get you've been targeted a lot, but like... take it in stride. Read the hateful comments like they're Dale from King of the Hill, and they'll just be funny.

i honestly don't give a shit about my reputation, though. there are just too many fucking people here. making a gigantic effort results in like 5% more of them liking me. believe me, i've tried. in every kind way i can imagine. you're all slowly driving me mad. and that's the problem of the internet, isn't it. anyway, i am who i am.

also, don't misunderstand me; i'm wishing hate on people only if they intentionally troll us:

i can/do just shrug it all off when it's about me, but when i have to hold and cuddle kit crying for tens of minutes after he reads e621 comments, it's not so easy. it's not the critiques that hurt, at all. i want people to critique, and so does kit. it's how people complain instead of critique. there's no effort put into saying "panini's nose looks weird," and saying "oh but i like your art anyway" just comes off as a virtue signal unless there are reasons explained for that as well.

what i'm saying is, we hate whining. especially when the whining is coming out of our mouths. but when we're whined at, it's super hard not to respond in kind. and even if the intentions are good, which i'm sure a lot of them (or most, even) are, there's no way to distinguish between a troll and a helpful hand when it's so easy to say "it sux" and move on to the next amazing picture on this site that's daily getting flooded with them.

and we hate competing -- or even FEELING LIKE we're competing -- with other artists. this should be a fun playground of people running up to each other all like "hey you like what i drew? i drew it just for you :3" why/how are people nasty to each other? laziness. and that's nobody's fault but everybody's responsibility. especially when it's so easy to comment and click voting buttons while everybody who's rushed around in their daily life just wants a cheap thrill at the end before they crash in bed.

but that's not the whole problem either. people who don't know the process of making visual art, even comics specifically sometimes, even though they have great taste and know what they want to see, when they try to express that to the person who's made the art, as obviously they need to -- and SHOULD be allowed to do -- to get the changes they want, it doesn't come out of their mouths in a way the artist can grasp. it's usually not specific enough. plus, the requested change sometimes simply won't produce the desired results.

we should publish some kind of guide on how to give critique without anybody getting upset or something.

It's good that you want critique- sometimes you need someone else's eyes to spot something you can improve on. However, if critical comments are causing this much pain, it might be time to take a step back and just focus on your art. Do what you love to do and seek out critique from sources other than e621 (it's a little like looking for helpful critique from Youtube comments, after all- not much intelligence and a lot of cruelty).

Eventually you may develop the skill of "translating" mean comments and seeing whether there's actually a helpful critique hidden in the snark and terrible spelling. E.g., if someone says Panini's nose looks like shit, you say "Hm... *is* there something to improve there?" Then you make your decision and move on.

Basically, even an insulting jackass might spot something you could improve- in which case you gain, and they don't. But sometimes an idiot is just an idiot- it's also a skill to reject that kind of sloppy attack and move on. To not worry about defending yourself or fighting back when it's not worth your time.

Fuck and then i get four downvotes just for being nice.

The hell is wrong with the people here sometimes.

    Downvotes exist for a reason.

Saying "I tried to negate the downvotes because I don't like them" is showing that you don't understand what that reason is.

Yeah and from what ive seen neither do a lot of other users, cause they throw them around like candy.

Also, my reasoning is i dont like people getting downvoted into obscurity for no legit reason.

Yeah, I gotcha. It's like getting into a debate on any site, only for some random person to say something generic like, "You're retarded."

...and that's all they say. Hit and run insults without any explanation whatsoever.

  • Proportions are good, anatomy needs work, it is a choice if the artist dosent want to try and keep improving his work, I advocate that in a more fantasy or made up style(anime, cartoon, ect.) proportions matter most. Though I say that, anatomy is not just pushed aside because proportions matter most. Though I think an artist saying "I cant change because its my style" is a weak excuse to not want to try or not try out of fear, starting over is not what they said but to reflect on, continue the comic if you want(THB I havent even finished on myself yet), I still think an artist should always seek to improve. Though I know the artist has improved of the years the problem of anatomy over his work still is something I would consider to be looked at. If you want to know how muscle and curvature works and how things look, go to the site sketchfab, its all 3D models where you can look around the figure, make an account there turn on the age restrictive content and save collections to refer to. Not to mention other tutorials and things on youtube and other artist posting their own process on other sites.
