Topic: Suggestion: make the "loss" tag refer exclusively to the meme

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

it would seem the other instances of "loss" being tagged are not very helpful and are also subjective, especially given how the meme has overrun the other instances.

it would be nice to have more of this tagged:

and less of this tagged as loss:

actually im p sure that the meme is called more commonly as loss.jpg

why not tag the meme as loss_(meme) for differentiation

Would someone explain what the mean even is?

"CADbortion (also known as Loss Edits) is a series of parodies based on an overly dramatic cartoon strip from the popular webcomic series Ctrl+Alt+Del in which the female lead suffers a miscarriage, which became a subject of widespread mockery among the readers."

It's infamous enough that it's the only thing I know about the comic. Just saying, even Star Trek got it right, and that one involved literally rewinding the fetus because time started going three ways. If that managed to make it work, there's just no excuse.

That, or loss_meme. We don't seem to have a standard for memes, they're split between *_(meme) and *_meme.

It started as a gaming gag-comic, and went on like that for years. Then suddenly, miscarriage. The negative reaction was mostly caused by how out of place that felt.

In general, it got pretty dark. And numerous videos were made to mock that.

+1 to loss_(meme) or loss_meme since "loss" sounds rather ambiguous on its own and could imply many different things.

loss.png, because jpg is shit

actually JPEG is some of the most advanced lossy compression technology ever made, where even after 25 years there still hasn’t been an improvement that could beat its combination of size to quality. in fact, a Debian developer two weeks ago called it frighteningly close to state of the art.

the reason it has such a bad reputation is because there are thousands of technologically illiterate people who don't know about the proper use cases for PNG and JPEG, and so images that should be saved losslessly - especially on an image booru - end up getting naughty compression artifacts that in a perfect world would not exist.
