Hey, I'll take a free commission too, and so will about 10000 other people, which is why asking for one is one of the best ways no not get one.
There are artists out there that will do a commission for $5-$20 or so, most people can afford that if they really try.

For a moment I though this was a new artist taking commissions free of charge to refine their abilities.

I've seen it a few times, sadly I see far more of requests like this than of artists offering.
And, like this one, it's generally the person's first post on the forums.
