The short versions for everything:

Does not meet minimum quality standards:

The image needs to look decent, both in file quality (no awful compression, properly scanned), and artistic quality (artist knows their craft). For a more complete overview of our criteria have a look at our Uploading Guidelines.

Inferior Version / Duplicate:

Check if the upload already exists using reverse image search, check other galleries of the artist if there is a bigger version, ensure you don't upload preview versions or thumbnails.

Paysite/commercial content:

Don't upload things you can't find on an official gallery of the artist. Anything that is bigger than normal, found on a 3rd party site (u18chan, 4chan, various booru pages) is suspicious. If you can't find it for free on one of the artist's galleries assume it's paid content.

This is a base:

We don't allow base lineworks when they have been colored by other people. The only way to prevent this is to read through the description of the person that colored it. Usually they link back to the actual artist of the base. If they do that don't upload them.

Takedowns:

Ask permission of all relevant right holders before uploading here. This includes the artist, commissioner, and any character owner of the characters portrayed in it. Sometimes there are also publishers in place, but that's fairly seldom for standard commissions.

Upload limit will increase as your post get's approved.
If you want to increase it, you can also look at this https://e621.net/post/index/1/bvas
Those images have better versions a source so you can upload them.

/howto:sites_and_sources has helpful info about how to get the highest quality version out of each website--maybe that will help :)

I tend to use an extension like imagus to get the best quality versions-- it shows larger images in little hover-popups. There's a key you can press to get those larger versions to open in a way you can copy the URL from. Makes it pretty easy.

One thing to be aware of, is that if an artist has multiple galleries, that you should check to make sure that you're looking at the one with the best quality.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions--it can be tricky to figure out the rules to anything--but you'll get it! :)
