The grin tag wiki page already says teeth must be present, so toothy_grin seems a bit redundant.

I don't see any difference between those. Can't really grin without showing teeth.

I woulda guessed that toothy grin was intended to be a 'menaging tooth baring smile, like in
but it more seems to be an opened lipped smile where you can see the outlines of sharp teeth.
but even then not always.
a feel like there SHOULD be something for the gins like the one above or post #1553998 (which is more of a.... slight crazy unnerving smile...)
but yeah as it stands, these are mostly just grins
