Topic: OC Character Redesigned

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Let's say that an artist creates a character called Jane. The artist draws a hole bunch of art for this Jane character. Then the artist decides to redesign Jane. He gives Jane a new design and a new name, Kate, and then continues to draw art of Kate.

My question is how to tag the character. Should I tag all versions of the character as Kate, or only the character after it was redesigned? Should I tag the old version of Kate as Jane?

Sorry if this kind of confusing.

If I"m into Jane-the-griffon-with-blue-and-white-fur, there's no guarantee that I"ll be into Kate-the-husky-with-pink-fur.

if kate's basically just jane but with a few tweaks, it might be different-- but probably better to keep kate and jane seperate

If the artist made a new design and a new name, that's not a character being redesigned – that's a whole new character. Treat it as such.

Sicne I realized I didn't state this. O nthe other hand, if the difference is that jane now has slighlty lighter fur, green eyes, instead of blue and a pair of wings, that MIGHT be different.

You'll have to give us more information of how the design has changed. Sufficient change makes a new character entirely.

the characters in question seem to be this and this

so yeah, i think that there is enough difference for them to count as separate characters

I feel the OP's situation is different, but this is still relevant.

When I was adding missing tags to valkoinen's posts, I found their self-named OC tagged as the artist on a post they didn't draw. That happens. However, that character didn't really match valkoinen_(character), which was a head-scratcher. In truth, that character is a redesign of their OC... still self-named. I believe their announcement post for this redesign on FA was titled "valkoinen 2.0", so in a bout of lazy problem-solving I just tagged that character as valkoinen_2.0_(character). It works. Not really a nice or flattering name to look at, but what can you do? lol

At least the OP's situation has differently named characters. Needless to say, any one person can have any number of OCs.
