Topic: Images not displaying

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Sometimes I click on an image, and for no clear reason, it only displays an empty screen. All tags, comments and background links are still present, but no images is displayed. Why does this happen, and what can I do to fix it?

I doubt it's the website, as I've never clicked on a thumbnail and had the image / file not load. Some things you can try are:

- Clearing your cookies and cache.

- Checking your image permissions for the website.

- Make sure your security software isn't interfering.

Also, I think that a generally slow Internet connection can cause files not to display as well.

More precisely on that last point, if a given embedded image takes long enough to load, the browser may consider it as 'timed out' and give up.
However, most browsers do display the partial image while it's loading (this is known as progressive loading), so the symptom of *nothing* appearing at all may contradict the 'slow connection' diagnosis.

If you use a proxy, that may also be relevant.

Are you sure it's an image and not a flash file?

Apparently on newer Firefox browsers the flash files just don't show at all if the flash player plugin isn't installed, thus it appears like the submission is "empty".

This sometimes happends to me, I think it's related to the internet connection rather than the site. I just wait until my phone says 'oh wait, wifi', then I reload the page and it works.

This is happening with me as well, beginning a few weeks ago and happening more frequently now, especially today. I've cleared cache and cookies, and even tried different web browsers and devices. My internet connection is very fast, so that is not a factor. Thumbnails sometimes load just fine, but actual images never do.
