isnt it same thing as viper..?

I'm no snakspert, but.

Snakes are part of the suborder Serpentes.
There are many types of snakes, like Pythonidae, Colubridae and Viperidae.
Viperidae is a group of around 350 different snakes. They are venomous, have long hinged fangs, and all give live birth. (yes, some snakes do that. Some even mother their babies :D)
The Viperidae family has several subfamilies, one of which is viperinae. They do not have heat-sensing pits, and have 12 genera and 66 species.
The genera vipera has 23 species, and tend to be short and stout, with clearly defined triangular heads.
Vipera berus is the name of the common European Adder.

So. All adders are vipers. Not all vipers are adders.
