Topic: [Feature]Don't count own posts as unread in forum threads

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.
When there are unread posts in a forum thread, the thread is marked in bold. I would like it if your own posts did not count towards this.

Why would it be useful?
It would make it easier to see if there are actual unread posts in a thread, and honestly, I think the suggested behavior is more logical.

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
forum posts, specifically new ones.

Just view your own post and bam, it's not unread anymore. I like it because it means that it doesn't magically update the entire list to say I read everything just because I posted in the oldest unread thread.

Why should you have to view your own post? You already know what it says.

If yer post was marked as read the moment ye posted it, every unread post before that would also be marked as read.

This. If you view the most recent thread, all threads get marked as read, because the forum doesn't keep track per thread, it keeps track based on the timestamp of the most recent comment viewed.

how about making it so that only threads you have viewed gets marked as read, and own "unread" posts would not make the thread unread
