Topic: I want to discuss the usage of "big_dom_small_sub" and "small_dom_big_sub"

Scroll down for a tl;dr section at the bottom

Background

Posts with a larger penetrator on a smaller receiver which lack any domination/submission usually have the big_dom_small_sub tag (or the small_dom_big_sub tag for the other way around sizewise). The problem? The tags are not intended for these kind of posts.

According to their wiki articles, big_dom_small_sub and small_dom_big_sub are meant to be used for posts with size difference where the dominating character is larger than the submissive one and vice versa, but doesn't mention anything about who is penetrating who.

Analysis

In order to see how many posts there are in big_dom_small_sub and small_dom_big_sub that lacks domination/submission, a search for "small_dom_big_sub -domination -submissive -bdsm" generates only 65 pages while "big_dom_small_sub -domination -submissive -bdsm" generates a whopping 204 pages (75 posts per page in both cases).

Post count Without d/s* tags Incorrect usage
big_dom_small_sub 18 196 big_dom_small_sub -domination -submissive -bdsm15 252 Approx. 83.82%
small_dom_big_sub 5 856 small_dom_big_sub -domination -submissive -bdsm4 803 Approx. 82.01%

*d/s = domination/submission

Conclusion

A while ago I stumbled upon smaller_on_top and bigger_on_top which, according to their wiki articles, are meant for these scenarios (where "top" in this case is referring to the penetrator). The issue here is that they are using the same name format as female_on_top, "[...] a sexual act in which the female is on top" (think cowgirl_position for example), which I fear might confuse some taggers to think that they are meant to be used the same way.

In order to prevent said confusion, I believe we need tags with more descriptive names that uses the format of big_x_small_y/small_x_big_y. I suggest the following tags, but just in case "penetrator" and "receiver" doesn't quite catch on, I have made a second pair of suggestions with inspiration from the gay slang words "top" (a penetrator) and "bottom" (a receiver):

Suggestion #1 Suggestion #2
Larger penetrating smaller big_penetrator_small_receiver big_top_small_bottom
Smaller penetrating larger small_penetrator_big_receiver small_top_big_bottom

Finally, don't worry about tagging all these posts; I can do it myself (or at least the majority of them). But anyone is welcome to help out once the tag names have been settled. The reason I created this thread is to get your feedback on these tag suggestions and hear your own ideas, so shoot!

tl;dr

Around 80% of the posts in two tags revolving around size difference in a domination/submission scenario (big_dom_small_sub and small_dom_big_sub) doesn't have any domination nor submission tags.

I'm suggesting that we create new tags for these posts and my suggestions are either big_penetrator_small_receiver and small_penetrator_big_receiver or big_top_small_bottom and small_top_big_bottom, where big_dom_small_sub and small_dom_big_sub is currently being used respectively on posts lacking any domination and submission.

Give me feedback!

Tangentially related to that, couldn't all those X_Y_X'_Y' tags be replaced by just X_Y? The X'_Y' is clearly implied, as no one would use big_dom_big_sub, nor big_dom_small_dom for that matter.

I like larger_penetrating_smaller and smaller_penetrating_larger. They are descriptive and you know what the tag is about. Likewise, I don’t see anything in the big_top_small_bottom’s and vice versa’s wikis specifying a penetrater. They just describe which character is on top of the other. Of course they should still be tagged if they apply to a post.

Indeed. And longer tags rarely become popular, so it's a good idea to keep the names short.

I'm against anything that uses terms 'top' and 'bottom', since those are often misunderstood. So how about just larger_penetrating and smaller_penetrating...?

Great idea! Let's keep it simple. There is no reason to make things more complicated than they already are.

Another great idea. I could see larger_dominant and smaller_dominant replacing big_dom_small_sub and small_dom_big_sub, respectively, since we don't really need to abbreviate "dominant" to "dom" if the tag name isn't too long. I'll create a alias suggestion later.

The domination tag itself is as subjective as the tag "cute" was when it was still a thing. Sure, you can have clear dominance, but on the other hand some people can see one character just penetrating another as domination.

My point is, this is not a road we want to go down. The site has already had a couple changes to tags, a lot of things that really didn't need to be changed because they were not causing any real problems

Short update: Since my last post I've been tagging posts with size difference related tags as a preperation for the moment I start this tagging project. It's just that I've super busy IRL.

The reason I started this thread was because an admin sent me a PM and a neutral record to stop using big_dom_small_sub and small_dom_big_sub to indicate whom is penetrating whom after I used these tags for almost 700 posts.

This is a clear indication that these tags should not be used for this purpose.
