Topic: Nomenclature for oviposition variants

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

With the sudden surge of egg-related posts from the easter season, I've started thinking about how we should organize all those egg-related tags, since the current tag ecosystem is a bit chaotic (and has no implications whatsoever).

We have two core tags: oviposition for eggs coming out and egg_insertion for eggs going on, neither of which imply to the other (since egg_insersion can be done by hand, for instance). This is fine so far.

As of right now, though, the related tags look like this:

(Oddly enough, no vaginal stuff to be found.)

Is there any prefered naming convention among those that seem to currently be in use, or is there any new one that people would prefer? There's already 3500 posts tagged as oviposition, proper subtagging would definitely be welcome.

I was going to put my vote for *_oviposition, but as SnowWolf pointed out to me, while a tag like like urethral_oviposition seems straightforward enough, there's ambiguity on whether it's meant to describe actual oviposition (eggs coming out) or egg insertion. Plus, the *_in_*/*_from_* pattern is pretty common elsewhere, so with that in mind, I'd probably go with egg_from_* for oviposition. I'm still not quite sure when is comes to egg insertion, though.

Yeah, the oviposition tags have been needing cleanup for so long. They're a mess as if now, def a project we need to tackle.

I don't know of every kind of nomenclature, but was pondering over the idea of maybe egg_insertion for eggs being laid into/penetrating a character, and then maybe we can have subtypes like anal_egg_insertion for eggs laid into an anus. As for a character birthing the eggs, I'm unsure really. It's a bit of an awkward thing to format. anal_egg_laying? anal_egg_birth??? I have no clue as to what egg "birth" tags would be

Yeah, hence why I figure it'd probably be preferable to tag those without context, as some situations are already tricky enough to tag as it is. Like I said, something like egg_from_mouth or egg_from_penis (not sure if *_urethra works here?) is simple enough to understand/apply regardless of whether we're talking about a "natural" ""birth"" or just recently inserted eggs coming back out or whatever. It'd be nice if we could have both be homologous, yet I'm not 100% convinced by something like egg_in_mouth (though it might grow on me).

I think the egg_play tag being used in cases where you're using eggs that are being manually inserted works, with oviposition and _penetration tags covering the other bases. Unless someone is going to keep an eye on newly-tagged oviposition for a couple months, it's doubtful that any new specific tag for ovipositors (tentacle or otherwise) that are depositing into the different locations (ass, pussy, urethra/balls, mouth/stomach) will catch on.

I just spent some time the other week fixing up some tags with the oviposition tag.
The three main tags I added where missing from oviposition posts with were ovipositor, egg_insertion, and transfer_birthing.
For eggs being inserted manually, I added the egg_play tag, and for those where one character was actively laying eggs into another without an ovipositor, I added transfer_birthing after realizing that there was already a tag for that (previously I'd created an egg_transfer tag).
