Topic: Butt discussion: likes and dislikes

Posted under Art Talk

What are people's major interests when it comes to the butt?

As in; roundness vs. realistic, thick/chubby vs. thin, bubble vs. heart-shaped, I see a lot of just absolutely out of proportion hips that I could only describe as a bouncing health problem... Like the whole chest Zeppelins issue (oversized breasts) and lately I've started mostly seeing people drawing butts like two big ass circles, no pun intended..., With a serious decline in more shapely or well sculpted asses... For the most part excluding males.

so I'd like to ask other people's opinions on this. What do you like to see in an ass.

Updated

To somewhat clarify; I see a lot of images where either the breasts or the ass just basically engulf the character to the point where they're practically the only thing you see... and more than just simply asking why people are into that, because I understand different strokes for different blokes, I'm more want to know what they like about them and what other people like, and what they like about what they like.

To quote dsaf, "these hips Don't lie, they are on oath."

Dude seriously? it's not a post about how I hate something.
I'm legitimately asking a question out of curiosity. it's not just about the one thing I honestly want to know.
But thank you for needlessly being a dick and not contributing to the discussion
Don't just shitpost
I genuinely want to know people's interests and what they like about them

well to me this seriously reads mostly just as complaining about content you do not like, rather than simply just asking people's opinion about the content. large chunk of those posts is just you criticizing the content, with "so whats your opinion?" tagged into it. that isnt really the best way initiate discussions.

Weel, I don't see interest in irl butts. I think it's the drawing itself I think it's really well done, but still, in humans, I don't see any interest. I mostly like this kind of subject in anthro and ferals, being animals or pokemon/digimon, etc.

About butts, it doesn't need to be houmungus; big only if there's a size difference between characters. Between bubblebutt or firm, it depends on the drawing; sometimes there're butts that they are not well draw, even if the butt is big. It needs to be pleasen to the eye

My kind of butts:

Yeah, I know the size can vary depending on art style especially when dealing with a specific character.
also, I think a common focus is point of view.

Not really. I didn't lead, or really say anything negative about it. And while I don't like it, I don't hate it either.
In all honesty, it mostly just confuses me giving it's strange nature and I wanted to know more about it from people who do enjoy it so I can know what people like about it.
It's not from a place of malice, I promise. I really am just curious.

... And while I'm at it since it's topical I get to talk about butts.

I get that this user went out of their way to say things like

absolutely out of proportion hips that I could only describe as a bouncing health problem

the whole chest Zeppelins issue

and that kind of rubs me the wrong way too,
But my problem here is you seem to react like this regardless of what the poster is actually saying, like anything that's a niche taste is verboten to even discuss in the most polite of contexts.
I haven't had a stake in these recent threads but I find the level of backlash they get incomprehensible.

What bugs me more is these threads get several times more attention than anything about site improvement.

Things I like about butts: when there is butt
Things I don't like about butts: when there isn't butt

I'm sure that can be urking, and I'm sorry for that. I do believe though that there's only so much you can talk about such things before the discussion has been had. And there's not really much to continue on, which could be one of the reasons.

While a discussion like this can continuously be had since it's opinion-based.

It happens regardless of old or new thought.

By the way, you can reply to multiple posts in a single post. On most forums it's considered poor etiquette to rapidly make several consecutive posts.

I might as well make an actual contribution to the thread.
For me it's less about the size/form of individual parts, and more the flow from one area to another. Obviously excluding inside jointed areas, I like to see smooth curves instead of sharp abrupt angles, and that's more important to my tastes than how large or small individual anatomical elements are. Don't confuse this with high-angled transition areas in general; I can appreciate those if the outline flow is fluid enough.
I'm not going to hunt down examples or I'd be here all day again, and I just don't want to dump that much energy into one of these threads.
You can have this though

Anyway, back to the topic. Here two examples of what I think it needs to be a good and a bad butt.

Bad butt: overly excessively big like two air balloons. Butt has fat too so it needs to be a little weighty

Good butt: proporsionally big according with the character's body; you can make it bigger but not so until you look at it and starts thinking it's a fake butt

When it comes to pronouncing specific parts, I think plague of gripes puts it best in that thicker or thinner lines can do a lot for your drawing, and help guide the eyes of your viewer.
As for the drawing you provided it looks nice. A short stacked lion with realistic muscle.

Also thank you for the advice.

I agree. A butt shouldn't just be like a pair of perfect circles, it has a particular shape that you just don't often see.

Butts are okay.
Though I have an affinity in drawing big butts on men and okay-size butts and flattish hips for women.

As in the more bear type body?
Yeah, I see bigger men getting a lot more love.
