Topic: [REJECTED] fix the mare and stallion tags

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #130 has been rejected.

create alias mare (0) -> horse (203843)
remove alias horse (203843) -> mare (0)
create alias stallion (0) -> horse (203843)
remove alias horse (203843) -> stallion (0)

Reason: Everytime I search or add the tags "stallion" or "mare" to an upload it's always aliased as "horse. Mares and Stallions are not other names for a horse. A stallion is what you call a horse that is male and mare is what you call a horse that is female. Not a horse itself. Please alias these tags back to just mare and stallion.

EDIT: The bulk update request #130 (forum #293610) has been rejected by @Millcore.

e621 doesn't have tags that are specifically "this species but male" or "this species but female". I think the alias requests got messed up, too.

I don't know the alias/implication system that well at all, but shouldn't there just be implications where stallion implies both male and horse, and mare implies both female and horse?

It's possible, but rather unnecessary. As Strikerman said, e621 simply does not use gendered species tags. If mare and stallion are to be used for horses, then so would doe and buck for deer, sow and boar for pigs, cow and bull for bovines, hen and cock for birds... and so on. This way madness lies.

And sometimes there's overlap. Doe and buck also apply to rabbits, and mare is any female equine (including zebras and donkeys) not just horses. Pretty sure bull can apply to some non-bovine species too. It just leads to a confusing mess since it's not wholly intuitive.

You also run into issues where the terms are used for multiple species. Sow/Boar and Cow/Bull are both used quite widely, it turns out. Edit: I see Watsit beat me to this point while I was searching. lol

I do remember seeing a feature suggestion for having a double alias a while back, so searching "stallion" would automatically search for "horse male", for example. But that still wouldn't stop false positives.

That list is actually fascinating. Never knew that a proper term for a male duck is "drake".
