Topic: For Those Who Like Gore Art, What Do You Find Appealing About It? (No Judgment Please)

Posted under Art Talk

I myself used to avoid gore/guro, but as time has passed I’ve come to like it. For me, it’s kind of an expression/release. I hate seeing anyone/any animal get hurt in real life, but the fictional art does have an appealing quality to me. It can be kind of sexy sometimes. What about everyone else?

Thanks. Only positive responses please.

Hmmm, let's get to introspecting and psychoanalyzing... I am sadomasochistic and enjoy extreme forms of it in fiction, but squeamish about a lot of irl gore/injury. I like some gore themes because it's extra intimate! That goes for the rare consensual goring, mostly. There may also be some appeal in the squicky feeling of seeing something so terrible. Adrenaline and a slight fear kink, perhaps? I can only enjoy all this if I know nobody is truly at harm, so fiction is a safe place to explore these themes.

There are a lot of things we (really) don't want to see happen IRL because those things are irreversible,
but I think fiction is fiction, so some things are okay.
Like "I love you so much that I would kill you" kind of thing? However I don't like to kill, even in fiction. Maybe it's because I'm a bit of a masochist ...

He seemed like a pretty chill dude, and he was against climate change, so I really don't mind seeing stuff like this

I like the spectacle of it. It's just cool to see the way some artists draw blood flying across the screen or guts pouring out of someone's chest. I don't reaally care for it in a sexual way, but some authors can use it to emphasize power and submissiveness pretty well.

It's kinda difficult to explain. My like of it's conditional, but sometimes I'm just like. That's neat lets explore most of the snuff tag

my guess is that people enjoy it because it's some sort of hyper-sadism/masochism stuff going on between both of the consenting partners and the fictional side of it. I never really think about why people are into stuff to be honest, though.

ot feeds that lil savage beast in my soul, plus some are very nicely done i don't get off to them but i can appreciate good art even if the content is really creepy as eff

It feeds into my psychotic tendencies. Watching them die or already dead is amazing, I just imagine myself doing the deed. Or if they're just bleeding due to other reasons, the sight of blood feeds into my tendencies, which help me mentally.

I don't "like" the genre per say nor do I go searching for the stuff as I'm squeamish when it's art that's not mine (Ik, weird logic), and I definitely don't get off to it... eck, but the few times I do draw it it's purely for catharsis and as a way of venting my intrusive thoughts so that I don't go about doing something stupid irl. A mental thing more than anything to help vent or rage in silence.
