Topic: [Feature] So...Any Updates on Subbing to Tags/Forums/Etc. Yet?

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Is this a popular topic on here? Cause I would really love to have the ability to get notifications on tags I would "sub" to or characters.
This may be an overstretch but I think it would be a really nice feature if you have the regular uploaded posts and on the side or some other section there would be your SUBBED Posts featuring the tags, forums, and more.

What comes to my mind is how Derpibooru does this exact same feature of separating regular posts from your "WATCHED" tags.
I'm in the dark about this stuff though, so are there any updates on this feature being added anytime soon?

I'd really like the ability to be able to just "Sub" to tags, then I'll never miss a new post with the tag. It's even more efficient if you use it for characters specifically. Then I can catch up on the content of my favorite characters.

It's a good idea, but I very much doubt that this functionality would be added to the site itself in the near future. There are other priorities, evidently.
E621 provides an RSS feed, though, so there's that. Some users save lists of tags that they like on their profile page, or bookmark their favorite searches.

There is at least one userscript that lets you subscribe to tags / pools / forums / comments.

The main issue I see is that tags can be added and removed by anyone at any time. Say you're subscribed to a tag foo, someone posts an image without that tag, then months later, someone adds that tag to the post. If the images are displayed chronologically when they were posted, it'd be buried and you'd never see it despite it now having the tag. Or if they're shown in the order of the tag being added, a post could be made with the tag, then later on the tag is removed and added back (because of a mistake or a tagging war or whatever), and aliases/implications could cause floods.

I don't think that this is that much of a problem.
Most people don't want to subscribe to just random tags - they usually want to follow specific artists, characters, or franchises. And while errors happen with those too, it's much less common.

My worry is with people who go way overboard with subscriptions. There are several people using my userscript that are subscribed to hundreds of tags.
What the point of that is beyond me, but I suppose that raises the problem of putting unnecessary strain on the servers every time one of those people checks for updates on their subscribed tags.

Depends. Some posts by a particular artist may be posted as unknown_artist, and it can be hours, days, months, or even years before someone recognizes and adds the proper tag. Sometimes an artist may end up with a couple different tags here and people not realize they're the same artist, until someone does realize it and requests an alias to fix it up. I find that some tags, like kemono, are often enough not tagged when posted but added any number of hours or days later (there are a few kemono artists I like to watch for, but I'll often find posts by them by searching other tags, or for them specifically, because taggers either don't know about or are too conservative with the kemono tag). There's also a rather prominent pokemon comic series that is never posted with the pokemon tags (by the artists, their material never says 'pokemon' or any of the species names, I assume to avoid trademark claims), and it can be minutes to hours before someone does add the tags (where the artists can claim plausible deniability that it wasn't them using/adding the tags).

Also sometimes tags can change by manual cleanup or a BUR update, so anyone that was watching the old tag would just silently stop getting new posts from it without warning.

I like the system ya got going on, but I'm a lazy possum who wishes it was already in here and I don't have to do steps to get what I want. I'll just play dead till such a feature arrives on the site. We'll see if I get desperate to try that though.
