Reason: I've noticed a ton of inconsistencies and missing aliases/implications in the various tail-related tags. Hopefully this will organize them a bit better.
Some notes on the various aliases and implications:
- As discussed in topic #27198, a band marking seems to be distinct from a ring or a stripe in some way (it seems to mostly apply to birds?), though I can't say I understand the difference too well, but I have set up these implications anyway, since logically, A) a banded tail must have the band marking, B) a banded tail must have tail markings, and C) a banded tail must contain at least two distinct colors. I have applied the same logic to the other tail type tags, such as ringtail and spotted_tail. I don't particularly like how "striped_markings" and "spotted_markings" sound, but that's what that other BUR is using, so I'll go with it for now. But it may be worth noting that stripes_(marking) is used way more often than striped_markings is. For now, I'm just trying to keep my BUR compatible with that one in case both are approved as-is.
Edit: I’ve since removed the multicolored_tail implications.
and stubby_tail are synonymous tags that are being used for precisely the same thing as short_tail. A scut tail is a specific style of tail usually found on cervids and lagomorphs that is necessarily short. If it's not short, it can't be a scut tail.
furry_tailand fur_tail both refer to a tail covered in fur. While furry_tail seems to be dramatically underutilized (just over 700 uses even though it probably applies to, I'd guess, somewhere in the range of hundreds of thousands of images on this site), I think it may still be a useful tag (rather than invalidating it or aliasing it away) if it's used to refer to characters that only have fur on their tails (or maybe a few other discrete parts rather than the whole body) such as is frequently the case with animal_humanoids and various hybrids. I've followed the same logic for scaly_tail/scaled_tail. I'm not sure what to do about feathery_tail, since I'd want to alias it to feathered_tail, which is already aliased to tail_feathers - which does not seem to be the same thing, according to the wiki. For now I'm just requesting that feathered_tail be unimplicated, since that would be a tag used to refer to characters that have feathery tails that aren't actually tail_feathers in the sense that the wiki uses the term. This may also help clear up a lot of the mistagging you see under the tail_feathers tag, whereby creatures such as dromaeosaurids and gryphons that have actual tails covered in feathers are getting the tail_feathers tag due to this implication. Example of what I'm talking about: post #2685600 (clearly has a feathered tail, but not "tail feathers" as in the kind found on birds.)
The tags puffy_tail and poofy_tail seem to refer to fluffy_tail in all instances I've seen.
For whatever reason, barbs is aliased to penile_spines. So to follow the same format (roughly...), I suggest aliasing barbed_tail to tail_spines, since they appear to refer to the same thing. Also including tail_barb, even though it's only been used thrice, because it's also the same thing and may help when people are searching for the correct tag.
tail_gesture- this is a weird underutilized tag (40 current results) that seems to have no clear purpose. It mostly refers to tailwag or tail_sway, but most of its uses don't seem to have any purpose that's unique to this tag that these others don't cover. It seems like the real intent of the tag was to refer to hand gestures made with a tail instead, but I could only find about seven images under this tag that fit that definition. (I'm not sure that a tailwag should be considered a gesture...) Regardless, it seems that there may be at least a few legitimate uses of this tag as a form of gesture, so I suggest implying gesture. It'll need to be cleaned up, but fortunately it hasn't been used much, so that shouldn't take long.
tail_motionis also underutilized, but I could see its utility as an umbrella tag for the various kinds of tail motion that can be seen in an image or animation. With the proper implications set up, it would not be underutilized at all. I've left out things like tail_sex because, even though you could assume it would have to involve some kind of motion, that motion may not always be depicted in an image.
heart_tail/tail_heart/<3_tail/tail_<3 - these are a huge mess. They are not used consistently, and the wiki pages are conflicting with one another. In fact, the entire "<3" versus "heart" thing seems like a big mess that needs to get cleaned up, with little consistency between their uses, but that's an issue for a different BUR. For now, I suggest using "heart" rather than "<3" in order to remain consistent with collaborative_tail_heart and hand_heart, the two tags most relevant to this one. (Ironically, tail_heart is the only one of these four tags that has never been used and does not have a wiki, despite it being the one that matches the format of these other two tags that are already in use...) I've also added some implications for these tags to make use of the aforementioned tail_gesture Also added collaborative_gesture -> gesture because that should be an obvious implication and it's somewhat relevant to this BUR, even though it's not specifically tail-related. As for the heart_tail and tail_heart tags, the former makes the most sense to use for heart-shaped tails, while the latter should be used for the tail making a heart gesture (again, to remain consistent with collaborative_tail_heart and hand_heart). The wiki pages will need to be updated to reflect this, and both tags will need some serious cleanup (they already do - the usage is already very inconsistent on these tags, so my alias won't make anything worse than it already is. It'll just make the cleanup a little easier by condensing the three used tags into two). Also included tail_boner as a gesture.
Note on tail gestures: tail_wave also sounds like it could be a tail gesture, as long as it's being used to refer to the same kind of wave that a hand would make (to wave at someone), but that seems to be only a few uses of the tag - and even so, I don't know that it can reliably be distinguished from a regular tailwag. Other uses include tail_twirl (which we don't have a tag for, and probably should - I've included it as an implication under tail_motion just in case it ever does get used), a motion of the tail that actually simulates a wave (as in water), or, most commonly, just a regular tailwag or tail_sway. Regardless of what it is, all of them involve motion, so the aliasing it to tail_motion would be accurate. Though, this one might be better to disambiguate (into tail_gesture, tailwag, tail_sway, etc) or to just outright invalidate it. I'm not quite sure what to do about it, but I've left it as an alias for now.
NOTE:
alias tail_<3 -> tail_heart
and
alias <3_tail -> heart_tail
had to be removed from the BUR because the antecedent name has already been taken.
imply hyper_tail -> hyper - I'm just surprised this one hasn't been done yet. It seems like almost every other body part already has - and this one is actually used more than some of them.
Edit: this implication is already pending elsewhere. Removed from the BUR for now.
seems to be a particular style of tail_tuft shaped like an afro.
imply tail_wings -> wings- butt_wings and head_wings already imply wings, so this should too.
unusual_tail - this is a very underutilized tag (14 uses) that seems perfectly legitimate - it already implies unusual_anatomy and it has exotic_tail aliased to it. It also follows the format of other unusual_* tags. These implications will help fill out the tag somewhat - not to mention they allow things like tail_pussy to implicate unusual_anatomy, which it should do. (I also caught that we should probably have ear_hands -> unusual_ears -> unusual_anatomy to follow this same format, but that's starting to get outside the scope of this BUR.)
Note: I'm not sure if forked_tail is actually strange enough to qualify as 'unusual,' even though it's certainly not something (to my knowledge, anyway??) that occurs in nature outside possible genetic defects. I've included it for now, but I can remove it if everyone objects to it.
- this seems to be used for the same purpose as questionable_anatomy, which is a defunct tag since pointing out anatomical mistakes is considered trolling. I'm suggesting we alias it to invalid_tag rather than changing the category to invalid because there is nothing this tag could be replaced with, since we don't point out anatomical mistakes - the tag just needs to be removed, not replaced with something else.
I'm not sure why tail_mouth implies tail_maw. They seem to be the same thing. The tail_maw wiki doesn't say anything about it, and I don't see any difference in how they're used. I'm suggesting we unimply this so that we can alias tail_maw to tail_mouth to follow the penis_maw -> penis_mouth alias that's already gone through a while ago in order to remain consistent between tags.
tail_bladerefers to a tail that has an actual metal blade attached, whether anatomically or as some kind of accessory. It appears to be anatomical on Cynder, for example (who should probably also get the unusual_tail tag, but never does...) while it appears to be an accessory on others. So I can't imply unusual_tail nor tail_accessory since it can be either, but regardless of what it is, it is some kind of blade. We have the same problem with flaming_tail - is it anatomical, or is it just on fire? This might be a good question to add to the respective wiki pages for these tail tags. Can you also tag unusual_tail or not?
tail_clothing- general cleanup for a couple different types of tail clothing tags.
thagomizerseems to refer to a specific kind of spiked tail.
(Just going to add a note here that I don't know what to do with tail_club...)
Edit: I added a weapon_tail umbrella tag to include things like this. See the changelog below.
necessarily include claws.
panties_around_tailshould follow the same format as panties_around_one_leg, and these implications will do that.
There are a number of tags that all just refer to a character whose tail has been docked.
Then there's a ton of tail_accessory tag implications. These are all accessories of the tail, and should be tagged as such.
tail_firstseems to be a vore-specific tag referring to the direction the vored character goes into the voring character. Notably, tail_first -vore has no results, so they are all obviously vore-related - but the implication should be added anyway in case someone uses this in the future but forgets to tag vore for whatever reason.
tail_bindinghad only been used 9 times, and in each case another tag should've been used instead, with those tags being a combination of tailband, tail_wraps, and tail_bondage. tailband was the most common correct replacement, so I fixed the rest and left the tailbands so that we could alias this to tailband.
Changelog
Changed alias fluffbob_tail -> docked_tail to alias fluffbob_tail -> scut_tail since it seems the tag is used exclusively for rabbit tails (note that rabbit_tail is already aliased to scut_tail).
Added alias bobbed_tail -> docked_tail
Changed alias bobtail -> docked_tail to alias bobtail -> bobtail_(disambiguation) due to possible confusion with bobtail_cat.
Added implicate docked_tail -> short_tail - according to the definition of a docked tail, it must be short.
Due to a discussion on the Discord server regarding the proper use of multicolored_* tags (that is, two different shades of the same color do not qualify), I’ve made the following changes:
Added unimply dipstick_tail -> multicolored_tail
Due to the fact that some dipstick tails are only two shades of the same color and not actually multiple colors, and:
Removed implicate banded_tail -> multicolored_tail
implicate ringtail -> multicolored_tail
implicate spotted_tail -> multicolored_tail implicate striped_tail -> multicolored_tail # duplicate of implication #10748
Added implicate tail_blade -> weapon_tail
alias bladed_tail -> tail_blade
implicate mace_tail -> weapon_tail
alias tail_mace -> mace_tail
implicate hammer_tail -> weapon_tail
implicate clubbed_tail -> weapon_tail
alias tail_club -> clubbed_tail
implicate tail_pussy -> tail_genitals
implicate tail_penis -> tail_genitals
alias tail_genitalia -> tail_genitals
Created an umbrella tag for weapon-shaped tail tags, and another for genitalia that appear on the tail.
Added alias tail_job -> tailjob
implicate tail_cloaca -> tail_genitals
implicate tail_cloaca —> cloaca
Added cloaca to the tail genitalia umbrella tag, as well as an alias for a duplicate of tailjob.
Added category bobtail_(disambiguation) -> invalid
alias tail_holding -> tail_hold
category tail_hold -> invalid
tail_hold is an ambiguous tag that should be replaced by something else. Someone wrote a nice disambiguation page at the tail_hold wiki, but it is still in the general tag category, so someone applying the tag won’t know it’s wrong unless they happen to check the wiki. tail_holding is the same thing, but it has no wiki, so I suggest aliasing it to tail_hold so people applying the tag can easily find the correct one.
Added implicate tail_ring_(piercing) -> ring_piercing
implicate tail_ring_(piercing) -> tail_piercing
implicate tail_ring_(piercing) -> tail_jewelry
A ring piercing in the tail is a form of tail piercing, a form of ring piercing, and a form of tail jewelry.
Tags for a followup BUR:
Please feel free to point out any problems or any other tail-related tags that should be added to the BUR!
IMPORTANT:
The following tags had to be removed from the BUR due to conflicting or duplicate implications/aliases. Some of the implication chains I’ve set up in this BUR depend on these others to go through, however, so these should ideally be resolved alongside this BUR.
implicate hyper_tail -> hyper # duplicate of implication #40250
implicate panties_around_tail -> underwear_around_tail # duplicate of implication #23889
implicate tail_jewelry -> tail_accessory # duplicate of implication #40254
alias tail_job -> tailjob # duplicate of alias #19455
alias tail_<3 -> tail_heart
— antecedent name already in use.
alias <3_tail -> heart_tail
— antecedent name already in use.
