The alias is so you don't have to. You would be able to tag or search for horny_jail and have it work just as if you typed go_to_horny_jail without having to type it all out.

I would consider KYM to be a decent authority on meme naming. Unless the meme is big enough to get a Wikipedia article, where else would you look?

KYM tries to be verbose. This leads to some memes having two or more titles, see this example.
Another example of verbosity is cum_jar entry which is titled Pony Cum Jar Project on KYM. It also demonstrates that meme naming can be deprecated, since we all know that cum jars aren't pony exclusive nowadays.
While original meme was "go to horny jail" is quickly evolved to include depictions of the proverbial horny jail itself as seen here:

Sometimes the names have to be modified for use on this site, sure. We would only use one name rather than two in any case, so we would probably just pick one of the two that KYM uses (as opposed to picking a third name, unless there was a compelling reason to do so). In any case, I don’t see a compelling reason to avoid using go_to_horny_jail. It’s not overly verbose (we have MUCH more verbose tags on this site as it is; this is hardly a serious offender), and it clearly gets the point across. By all accounts, “go to horny jail” is the original meme, and an actual horny jail location is a subset of the meme. And as Furrin points out, horny_jail seems more indicative of the location itself rather than the entirety of the meme. In fact, it could possibly be its own tag that implies go_to_horny_jail.

You can still type Horny and get your result. Nothing has changed, you can still be lazy.
