Topic: Simple question about three-quarter view + front/rear view usage

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Is it ok if I use three-quarter_view with front_view/rear_view when there's a post with a character in three-quarter view in which we can see the front/rear?

Examples

post #2664154 three-quarter view + front view
post #2495047 three-quarter view + rear view

Also why is it called rear_view instead of back_view?

"front" and "rear" in this context refer to the viewer's position relative to the subject: viewed from the front, or viewed from the rear. Not regions of the body.

So your first example would be both three-quarter_view and front_view, but only because there are two different angles of the character in the same image.

The second example would be one or the other...I would consider it three-quarter_view.

I didn't see there was a character at the bg, thus I was referring tagging the character that have the focus to be in three-quarter view and front view.

So we can't tag with both in these cases? Imo that seems odd. Is there a tag that could help with it? To show the body regions that is facing the viewer in three-quarter view?

Eh. There's really no clear line where an angle stops being front or rear view and starts being three-quarter, so you might as well tag with both if it seems like a borderline case. I personally don't care.

I have heard others (including former staff—not sure what current staff would have to say about it) that three-quarter view should always be combined with either front or rear view, since there’s two different kinds of three-quarter view: one rear-facing and one front-facing.

I also think that should be a valid way of tagging. But as the Wiki didn't say anything, I thought you could use only one when referring to a character. I'll wait for more responses tho, hopefully from staff so we know if they still hold that position or not. Thanks for letting me know! :)

I would like to hear what staff have to say, since what I described is how I have been using these tags. Then, when we get an answer, I’ll probably update the wiki.

https://e621.net/posts/2425662 Mentioning, is this 3/4_view (three-quarter_view) or three-quarter_portrait? It's the last "3/4" post.

Also, time to submit an alias request. XD

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense to use this tag by itself. It's off-center front view, off-center rear-view, but not say, worm's eye view or the like, so...

Thanks! I wasn't sure it even belonged there so... Yeah, thanks for 2nd opinion - I can't always tell!

Do only certain people get red text? I was trying to quote the color from the tag log. Oh wells.
