Topic: [Feature] Help Page for Bulk Update Request (BUR)

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

Requested feature overview description.

A Help page for Bulk Update Request (BUR). Some of the things It could entail are:

  • 1) All the available operations and a explanation of each one;
  • 2) Some examples of neat things you can do with BURs like:
    • a) Renaming a tag/ Fixing typos;
    • b) The ability to edit and reject your own BUR.
  • 3) A list with common errors like transitives or ""missing #" and explaining what they mean.
Why would it be useful?

It would help new and inexperienced users to deal with BURs and encourage them, as it's really intimidating to make one right now, because of the lack of a real tutorial/documentation/help page. I for one have no idea what the update operation does, I had no idea how to make a BUR to rename a tag, until I tried one, some days ago. At first everything was flipped and a "missing #" error appeared on my BUR, I flipped everything and thank god it worked! Now I understand that to remove an alias, the correct order is tag_that_got_aliased -> tag_that_it_was_aliased_into. At least I knew how to edit a BUR beforehand. (ノ`Д´)ノ彡┻━┻

What part(s) of the site page(s) are affected?
  • The list of Help Pages will show a help page for Bulk Update Request.
  • The page to make a BUR would have a help link at the top besides "Listing" and "New".
  • The Bulk Update Request Help little thingie, pop-up? Below the script field should be renamed to operations instead. I think it's worth to maintain as a quick cheatsheet. But not as "help", because now... NOW! We'll have (hopefully) technology, a dedicated and better documented help page.

Yes please, as a somewhat newer user to doing these things, I would really like to know how to do these things, since they seem pretty complicated.

OH MY GOD PLEASE MAKE THIS A THING

also, like a way that shows what is implied or aliased to what to prevent duplicates or things that are locked so the BUR doesn't collide with others or worse, gets NULLED outright

4. Your BUR title must contain an annoying pun.

Somewhat related, but title must include a Tag BUR: prefix otherwise I don't even know it's a BUR discussion or just another random thread.

It's fine if it has "BUR" somewhere in the name, BUR request topics are already put in the implications/alias requests forum section

I started the documentation of BUR in this page. It's still missing some info like what to do when there's an error, but I think it's a good start.

Anyone feel free to keep improving it.

Also, can it be added on the Help page?
