Topic: [REJECTED] Tag alias: pickle_rick_(character) -> pickle_rick

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #56548 pickle_rick_(character) -> pickle_rick has been rejected.

Reason: Same thing; I don't really see any reason to have two separate tags for this. The meme could technically be referenced without the Pickle Rick character appearing itself, but that doesn't really feel like a necessary reason to have an entirely separate tag just for the character.

EDIT: The tag alias pickle_rick_(character) -> pickle_rick (forum #327156) has been rejected by @faucet. / Rejected in favor of the BUR.

Pickle Rick the character is already covered by Rick Sanchez. +1

Wait, why does pickle rick implicate human Rick? Official forms should be kept separate.

Edit: Oh, that one's not even a character, tag, so it especially shouldn't imply the character.

The bulk update request #2017 is pending approval.

remove implication pickle_rick (47) -> rick_sanchez (139)
remove implication pickle_rick (47) -> meme (52611)
remove alias funniest_shit_ive_ever_seen (0) -> pickle_rick (47)
mass update pickle_rick -> pickle_rick_meme
create implication pickle_rick_meme (0) -> rick_and_morty (883)
create implication pickle_rick_(character) (14) -> pickle_rick_meme (0)
create implication pickle_rick_meme (0) -> meme (52611)

Reason: 1. Character forms should always be kept separate in case they are tagged together.
2. Pickle Rick itself was the meme tag, not even the character to start with.
3. The character should only imply the meme, not alias to.

It's extremely easy to reference the meme without the character.

alias funniest_shit_ive_ever_seen -> pickle_rick_meme
alias pickle_rick -> pickle_rick_meme

Good point. A couple thoughts, though:

I feel like we could just use funniest_shit_ive_ever_seen as the meme tag. For one, it clearly references the meme itself as opposed to sounding like a character tag. Secondly, it would leave the plain pickle_rick tag open to be the character tag. As for right now, you’re proposing an alias from pickle_rick to pickle_rick_meme. I feel like people are going to use the tag pickle_rick to tag the the character instead of using pickle_rick_(character) without checking the alias, which may cause some posts missing the character tag. I think it would make more sense to just use the unsuffixed character tag for the character in any case.

Thought 2: on the other hand, I’m not sure that every single depiction of Pickle Rick qualifies for a meme tag. He is just a character from the show, after all, and an image depicting the character without any particular reference to the series of memes surrounding the character doesn’t seem like it would need a meme tag. Take post #2026857 for example. Is that actually a meme, or just fanart of the show? Does the meme tag actually belong here?

So, here’s what I propose instead:

1. pickle_rick is just a character tag that implies rick_and_morty.
2. funniest_shit_ive_ever_seen is the meme tag that implies rick_and_morty and meme, but not pickle_rick in the event that the meme is referenced without the character being present.

A copyright with the character tag missing is easily fixed, but a copyright that incorrectly has the copyright takes a bit more effort to find. The character is adding the copyright after all.

Bumping this to bring attention--the tag is too split in its usage to even be useful, and regardless of which way it goes, pickle_rick should not, and never should have implicated rick_sanchez. They're different forms.
