Topic: Taur as a general tag, not species

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #2021 is pending approval.

change category taur (18286) -> general

Reason: This was already suggested in topic #29470, but that BUR was rejected due to its other suggestion of animal_humanoid losing its species status. None of the comments in that thread were about taurs, only animal humanoids. I haven't been able to find any other threads about this, but please let me know if I missed something.
I understand this could be a hot take, but to me, taur seems like it's just a body style like anthro and feral. Why is it considered a species when anthro isn't?

Updated

Of course immediately after writing this I find another thread about it (topic #23174), whoops! I guess I'll leave this up though since that one's a few years old and not an update request.

What about mammal_taur, humanoid_taur, equid_taur, canid_taur, canine_taur, etc?

I thought about this and decided not to include it in my post since it's a much bigger change, but in my opinion, I think we should remove all those tags. We don't have anthro_dog and feral_dog, we search anthro+dog and feral+dog. I think the same can be done with taurs. Centaur and humanoid_taur can probably stay, though, since animal humanoids are species tags. Regardless, that's all just my opinion and I know it is a major change that probably won't happen.

Edit: Also, your forum link should be topic #23174.

Whoops, thank you! I edited to fix

The "species" tag category isn't supposed to include only the real world definition of species. It includes breeds of domestic animals as well, for example. I'd say "body styles" or "forms" are close enough concepts to be a better fit for "species" rather than "general". IMO, anthro and feral should have their categories changed.

That's fair. In your opinion, if anthro and feral were species tags, would anthro_dog feral_dog etc. also be tagged? I'm leaning towards no just because of the huge tag bloat and how hard it would be to clean up every anthro and feral image on the site but on the other hand, we do have those tags for taurs and humanoids, so it would be more consistant to have them for anthros and ferals

Edit: actually I think it would be much simpler and not be terribly missed if we just removed the specific species tags (like dog_taur) for taurs, to match anthros and ferals, even though "anthro" and "feral" also become species (but not anthro_dog and feral_dog)
