No? They look like clothes you'd expect from a peoples who live in a desert. Same with characters like Shantae. I'm not even sure if we should have the harem outfit tag, but if we keep that around it definitely needs to be cleaned up, people are saying "oh if you show skin you work in a harem" which is completely wrong.

it's a term of convenience, not necessarily one of accuracy - it's not like we have a desert_clothing tag at any rate

We have a skimpy tag if you want to have something convenient to tag when it's actually skimpy, which I would argue isn't normally the case.

It looks like the stereotypical harem outfit if you ask me - but yeah, the tag does need some cleanup and maybe even a different name. I wonder if that style of dress has an actual name we could use instead?

There’s also belly dancer outfit which appears to be referencing the same thing most of the time. Either way, these are both “skimpy middle eastern feminine clothing” with a recognizable style, so there ought to be some tag for that, and I think the Gerudo outfit is a subset of that style of dress.

Edit: I did some research. The distinctive baggy pants used in belly dancing literally are called harem pants. And according to the belly dance Wikipedia article, the total belly dancer outfit is just harem pants combined with a decorative belt and bra or fitted top (like a bandeau).

Apparently, this costume is called bedlah. Would this be an appropriate tag for this concept? Any objections to aliasing both harem_outfit and belly_dancer_outfit to bedlah?

"Bedlah" is Arabic for women's clothing in general. It doesn't refer to specifically what we call a "belly dancer outfit."

I believe you are mistaken in objecting to this alias. If you aren’t, please provide some evidence. And while you’re at it, provide an alternate name suggestion, since as we’ve already established, both “harem outfit” and “belly dancer outfit” are somewhat ambiguous and don’t always refer to the same thing (belly dancers and harem members can be dressed in anything, and this bedlah outfit can be worn be either belly dancers or harem members… or just anyone in general).

And even if you’re right, nobody here is tagging things in Egyptian Arabic. If we want to use an Arabic word to describe this style of dress that doesn’t seem to have any other official name, that doesn’t pose a problem.

It occurred to me that it's kind of arbitrary which clothing is "Harem clothing". I mean, Furrin Gok was right?

But I'm not sure of the proper name for this. And if that's common, then it's bad for search(ers/es).
