Topic: New meta tag; gender_edit?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Currently there is no specific tag for an unofficial edit where the gender of a character is changed, though it is not an uncommon reason for edits, like nude_edit.

Though the tags edit and crossgender are used for these images, they are not a direct implication of the above as the edit could be for other reasons, such as color_edit.

So I am proposing a new meta tag for this, meta:gender_edit

I would have just added it myself but I do not have permission to make new meta tags~ :3

But you have a permission to create a new general tag. Just start tagging and leave it as general. human_edit or sound_edit didn't need to be meta to be used (and they still aren't). Meta category assignment is only a cosmetic change.

You could probably just start tagging it. I started tagging translated_description and somebody switched it to meta without me having to ask.

Alright, and yeah, those should be meta tags too. I'm not sure why the meta category is locked down though, was there misuse of it in the past?

To my knowledge, it's just been like this since its implementation. The lore category was introduced at the same time, and it also has limitations on its use.

I think, like the lore tags, meta tags can only be switched over by an admin, likely to prevent tagging problems by non-admins.

Yes, but why would a tag incorrectly placed in the meta category in particular cause sufficient havoc that its access should be restricted to a greater extent than, say, artist?

Lore tags I can understand because they're a controversy minefield, and obviously users should not have the power to unilaterally declare tags "invalid", but meta is perfectly innocent. Any serious controversies would easily be dealt with under the 100 posts rule.

I could see people trying to use Meta for their own pet 'more important than General' tags. And it's not like new meta tags are being added all that often, and could probably do with a bit of scrutiny before being accepted.
