Reason: First is a misspelling. (see edit)
I'm not sure why we would need 2 tags for what are basically the same thing.
Am I gonna need to do some un-whatever thing, I hope not...
sometimes, I wish those tags that are aliased away, actually disappear from the tag count.

Cigars and cigarettes are definitely not the same thing. Same goes for the boxes: a cigar box looks way different from a cigarette box.

The box aliasing was under the assumption that the main cigar alias would be approved
What I'm getting from the wiki, is that the only difference between them is the outer material, (paper/more tobacco) which to me feels like a case of technicality. I'll split the spelling aliases to another BUR.

Well, I’ll grant you that that’s partly true. The main difference, however, is that they look totally different. Technically, there’s nothing stopping someone from making a cigar that looks like a cigarette, or a cigarette that looks like a cigar. However, that just never happens. They both have a very recognizable style that basically all cigar and cigarette manufacturers conform to. Cigars are much bigger, rounded at the ends, usually dark brown, etc. while cigarettes are usually small, white, perfectly cylindrical, flat at both ends, with a brown filter at one end.

Then there’s also different connotations with each. Cigarettes are more commonly associated with the stereotypical “badass” Duke Nukem type of character, while cigars are more associated with overweight business magnates and James Bond villains, among other things. They both elicit a different mood and indicate different qualities about the characters using them. So, I’d think they’re best left separate.

I do wonder if we need cigarette smoke/cigar smoke, though. Smoke is just smoke whether it comes a cigarette or a cigar.
