Topic: Add a "Controversial" page that functions like Hot and Popular

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

There are pages that shows and orders posts based on upvotes like "Hot" and "Popular". Perhaps there should be a "Controversial" page that shows posts based on how many downvotes it has. Bad idea? Good Idea? Thoughts?

Terrible idea. It will gamify downvoting content.

As if metagaming by posting something at certain time to get the top spot in Popular wasn't a thing already.

Controversial isn't just about downvotes, that's just unpopular. Something controversial would have lots of comments and similar amounts of upvotes and downvotes.

This.

I'm sure someone could spin up a userscript that somehow calculates controversial posts.

Making it a default option on the site sounds like a terrible idea.

Ah yes, make an entire site function dedicated entirely to childish bickering. What is this, Reddit?

I thought controversial referred to posts that have a high number of votes but a score close to 0. Not positive or negative. If it's just negative then everyone is on the same page.

Yes, controversial is usually a high number of up&down votes. I. e. only 10-20% difference between these.
I'd like the addition of such a page, it would help to find interesting posts.

If half the E621 Userbase hates something it must be good :^)

That would just cause more childish comment drama and would probably encourage some people to only upload gross, offensive or poorly made art so they can get their 15 minutes of fame in the "controversial" section.

poorly made will get rejected for quality, and

That page already exists.

Pure downvoted already exists.

Just curious, how are you able to see specific downvote / upvote numbers? All I can see is the sum of them.

On the post, you can hover the mouse cursor over the score, and it'll show downvotes and upvotes separately.

I was just thinking about this. I'd like to be able to search by ratio of favorites to score. favcount:>=500 score:<=100 would be a ratio:>=5:1. Could be implemented as favcount:score*ratio which would require server side math in the query, but not much. Could also keep a ratio field on each post that is updated every time you touch score or favcount. Basically copy the image size ratio code but with score and favcount instead of width and height.

It'd also be easy to expose up_score and down_score as range search fields which would help.
