Topic: [Feature] Add functionalities such as favorites, votes and tags to pool

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I wondered if pools could have some functionality just to make them better to sort and search.

While "inpool:true + tags" exists, it would be easier to search for a single pool where all the posts share the same tags in common. (i.e. If a pool has "transformation" for each post in the pool, the pool would be tagged "transformation". Thus, you would be redirected directly to the pool instead of the individual posts. It's clearer and easier to find.)

Also adding favorites and votes independent to the posts would make it easier to search for a specific comic in the favorite list. For example, if you don't have the name of the pool, you would have to search a page in your favorite list, and then click the link to the pool. While with a "favorite pool" page you could compact dozens of posts in your favorite list into one.

Pool tags have been suggested a few times in the past and it was determined it was too difficult to incorporate it into the site software. (see also topic #17092) But... this was 5 years ago and the site is running newer code now, Earlopain or Kira will probably be able to tell us whether it's possible in the new version of e621.

I'd personally like to see this feature a lot.

We need poolindex, which doesn't help with all of that but at least should be easy to implement.

A clunky fix would be to create a lore tag that can be applied to every single post in a comic, like transformation_(comic). Then if poolindex exists you could search poolindex:0 transformation_(comic) to find the cover or first page of every single transformation comic.

Downsides: It would create a lot of extra work. There are many tags that users might want to search, and we probably don't want to create thousands of new lore tags.

I don't think this could be implemented based solely on the tags in the posts, thanks to TWYS rules meaning you're not allowed to tag something that doesn't specifically appear in one page on the basis that it will appear in future (or past) pages. transformation specifically is a good example of a tag that has an extremely bad reputation for not showing up in the first page of comics otherwise dedicated to it. vore is another. More prosaically, I'm currently uploading a 50+ page male/male comic in which the males in question only demonstrated sexual attraction towards each other in the last 8 pages or so.

If you're saying that pools should have their own tagging system separately from the posts, I agree. Although we would need to implement some kind of rule to replace "Tag What You See" for pool tags, to prevent pools getting tagged with something that happens in the background of one page, while still allowing for major themes of the pool that nevertheless technically only show up in a minority of pages. Overstay, for example, is undoubtedly a transformation comic, but that tag applies to less than 50% of its pages.

I'm saying what you say in your second paragraph. It would be hard, I agree, but it could also be nice for the reasons you cited. In my first post, I was only thinking about tags and favs making pools more compact when you search for them. It could make them easier to sort and search. But it's also nice if you could see a pool's main-theme like you said. There are a lot of comics that take a completely different turn after a few pages, which some people don't like. (e.g. Sudden cuckold fetish is a common thing people dislike.) And it's beyond the point of blacklisting something or not. Because sometime, you want to be sure you're going to read what you want to read. (i.e. If I'm not in the mood for something depressing, I'm not going to read a comic featuring heavy drama)
