Reason: Kris is the official name of the female player character in Pokémon Crystal, the first game to offer such an option. For many years the canon status of this name was dubious, with only one English source referring to her as such, and some others (e.g. the Pokémon Adventures manga) naming her Crystal. In an episode of the anime, a character bearing her likeness was given the name "Marina". She did not return for the remake of her generation, instead being replaced by lyra_(pokémon). However, in 2019, she appeared in a video game for the first time in 19 years: Pokémon Masters, which confirmed her official name as Kris.

Ash ketchum and red (pokémon) are two different characters, so couldn't kris (pokémon) and marina (pokémon) be different? Crystal came from the manga, making that more of a Satoshi (pokémon) situation, but I'd say Kris and Marina should be different.

Kris and Marina look identical. Ash and Red do not. This is literally the one criterion we use to determine whether a tag is valid.
