Cup Noodle and Cup Noodles are registered trademarks by Nissin. Seems there is the instant_noodle tag for generic instant noodle in cup packaging.

It's a Registered Trademark, but a pretty surprising one in places where those are just… like, common words and where the whole term is fairly obviously descriptive. I hope it's on its way to becoming a genericised trademark, really.

Perhaps deploying/adding "cup_instant_noodle -> instant_noodle" and "cup_noodle_(nissin_brand) -> cup_instant_noodle" would be more obvious. But what do I know, notorious scoffer at corporate intellectual property that I am.

create implication noodles (1267) -> pasta (784)
remove implication noodles (1267) -> food (155637)

Reason: Also, noodles are a category of pasta. Unless we want to alias them together, since definitions vary, in some regions they're just synonyms.

ehhh... I'm not sure if people would consider rice noodles and soba and the like as "pasta". I'm pretty sure pasta specifically refers to certain kinds of wheat products.

Not sure about the cup_noodles -> nissin implication. A lot of posts under that tag are just generic ramen cups that don't seem to directly reference that brand. But on the other hand, it's a very small tag that could probably be cleaned up and maintained if needed.

Alternatively, is nissin used for anything else besides Cup Noodles? Could just use that tag exclusively for their actual branded noodles and alias cup_noodles to instant_noodles or something.

Wikipedia's pasta article suggests that rice pasta and other non-wheat pastas exist, but that the difference is mainly just that pasta is Italian/European while Asian noodles are just... Asian noodles. Like how Champagne is only Champagne if it's from Champagne, and otherwise it's just sparkling wine, I guess.
