Topic: [APPROVED] Tag alias: tiger_stripes -> stripes

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The tag alias #58699 tiger_stripes -> stripes has been approved.

Reason: There is no difference between stripes and tiger_stripes. Stripes on a species, that usually doesn't have stripes, is nothing uncommon in this fandom and doesn't need an extra tag.

EDIT: The tag alias tiger_stripes -> stripes (forum #342925) has been approved by @bitWolfy.

Why tiger stripes particularly, and none of the others in https://e621.net/tags?search%5Bname_matches%5D=*_stripes ? And that's before you get to *_spots or *_print.

I think the distinction of pattern is useful, so this alias should be an implication instead.

The vast majority of those *_stripes tags you linked to are either tags referring to the color of stripes, body location of stripes, or characters with the last names of stripes. Tiger_stripes are redundant because they're just stripes on a tiger

Why tiger stripes particularly

I hate tigers
You can see my explanation above. The other tags describe either where they are, or the color of it. They could need a clean-up, though. E.g.: facial_stripes striped_face.
If there would be a spotted_hyena_spots tag, for spots on a species that normally doesn't have spots, I'd gladly create an alias request for it too.

How would certain tiger stripes be discernible from zebra stripes if not on the animal themselves (and that's still no guarantee if a tiger is wearing a zebra hide or something of that nature). But then, this tag is supposed to be used when the stripes are not on the tiger (barring clothing).

Come to think of it...

The bulk update request #3203 is active.

create alias zebra_stripes (0) -> stripes (172655)

Reason: ...Same logic as DubsTheFox's request above. It's also currently only used on two posts, one of which has a zebra and no other stripy thing, so doesn't count (and illustrates a problem with either of these stripe tags in that it's used on an animal that's supposed to have such stripes) and the other an okapi (the same problem here except that it would need to be tagged okapi_stripes as these giraffids, not zebras, are supposed to have such stripes).

Also, how would one tell them apart from certain tiger_stripes unless they're still attached to the animal, in which case, they shouldn't be tagged?

EDIT: The bulk update request #3203 (forum #343040) has been approved by @bitWolfy.
