You could call it semantics as he's a planeswalker for most of his notable existence in the canon, but nicol_bolas exists in depictions both before and after being a Planeswalker.
I'm not sure about implications to planeswalker at all, it's a very WYK reliant tag to begin with, with no visual indicators and the possibility of depicting any given character either before they "awakened" or after losing the ability.

I dont really like the planeswalkter tag to begin with honestly... since its impossible to tell whether they are besides lorewise,
