Topic: Proposed definition of toonkind and tag cleaning

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

So we have a species tag for toonkind around. I like it conceptually, but it lacks a wiki definition and the way it was being used before I found it was mostly as a synonym for toony. Worse, it's almost all one artist. Ordinarily it would be best to invalidate the tag, however I would like to try to use it for characters like Rodger Rabbit that are canonically different from other characters for being toons. It's over 100 posts so I figured I should ask here before making any changes or removing images myself.

I would like to define the tag as the following:

A creature that has the appearance and properties of a cartoon character. For these characters rubberhose arms and cartoon_physics aren't just a stylistic choice, but properties of the their body.

Do not tag based on information outside of the image
Toonkind characters are not just characters that look toony. To follow twys, check if any of the following apply before tagging.

  • Other characters in a different art style are also shown.
  • The background or surroundings of the character are in a different art style.
  • The character acknowledges themself or others as a cartoon without breaking_the_fourth_wall.

Do not use this tag if any of the following apply

  • The image would only be tagged because of cartoon_physics
  • The character is shown as fictional within the image (Inside a comic book, or on a tv.)

Is there anything I missed? Would there be a better way to create a tag for this?
