Topic: Is the ych_(character) wiki accurate?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

ych_(character):

An acronym for "Your Character Here." Artists use this term as a description of the auction they are holding. People bid on a certain spot they want their fursona/character to be placed in. When the bidding process is finished, the finalized artwork will then show the winning bidder's character or fursona in the exact pose and place represented in the preset roughly sketched area.

Note: This tag is mainly used for blacklisting. Do not tag for finished works; this is only applicable to unfinished works that include placeholder characters with text "ych", "you", or similar.

In practice, ych_(character) is tagged on plenty of finished posts. Keep in mind that advertisements, i.e. an artist trying to get someone to fill in a 'ych' character with their own, are already not allowed on e6. The tag is definitely misplaced on some posts, but it's also used for characters that are meant to be a generic stand-in, with "ych" on the character themselves, but without the artist actually advertising any kind of service.

Should the wiki be updated?

ych_(character) is treated as a type of anon character, not whether or not the image was created as part of a YCH auction. It doesn't actually matter if the image is for a YCH offer, as far as I know, only if one of the characters looks like an anonymous stand-in for a YCH. If it's on a finished image that doesn't feature a YCH stand-in, it should be removed.

More generally, we shouldn't tag finished images that were created as YCHs, just as we don't tag images that were created as commissions, or were created as personal art. A BUR trying to move ych_result to the Meta category was rejected, while a BUR trying to move it to the Invalid category is still pending.

I agree 100%, I might've just worded myself improperly. I think the "Do not tag for finished works" bit from the wiki is what's tripping me up; I'd classify at least a good portion of the images I linked as "finished".

the original version that of the wikipage that NMNY made was a bit diffrent

Note: Only tag this if there are unfinished characters visible.

it was changed about a year and a half after the initial creation. I think this description calling the character "unfinished" rather than the entire piece is a bit better, honestly.
