Topic: [Feature] Remove whitespace after username/password submissions

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

[Requested feature overview description.]
Allow trailing whitespace characters to be trimmed when entered into username and password boxes "Foo " -> "Foo"

[Why would it be useful?]
I'm one of the handful of users that has a username that is a common english word. On android devices, words that are typed and autocompleted include a trailing space. I frequently make the mistake of autocompleting my username and submitting "Sauerkraut " which fails to be accepted as a correct user ID.

I wouldn't think it'd pose much of a security risk and would reduce failed logins for users that have their username saved into autocomplete systems on their device

Will this affect my password? It's a string of spaces, 10-1000 long, that changes hourly for maximum security.

What browser are you using?
For me this would be impossible after the first login, as the autofill kicks in as soon as I tap in username field. No typing involved.

( FWIW, I'm running Chrome version 106 on Android version 8)

This problem often occurs when using the predictive conversion function of smartphones and tablets.

Makes sense to strip whitespace on the username since usernames can't start or end with a space (as far as I know) but passwords should be left as they are, since it would make it impossible for some people to log in since ending a password with a space is valid.

Thanks for these clarifying thoughts, I wasn't communicating my behavior correctly.
I'm using a smartphone autocomplete for predictive text that @drag007 called out. as @Lance_Armstrong mentioned, password autocomplete and autocorrect never kick in on typical password entry.

The base of my first metacarpal is wonky so I try to use a combination of top autocomplete instead of the backspace to reduce hyperextension/adduction of my thumb. put short it's a physical pain to press backspace but its by no means a dealbreaker, just more of a microscopic inconvenience.
