Topic: hair_trimming BUR

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

The bulk update request #3503 is pending approval.

create alias haircut (190) -> hair_trimming (85)
create alias hair_cut (8) -> hair_trimming (85)

Reason: Six tags alias to hair_trimming:
cutting_hair,hair_cutting, haircutting,
(and hair_trim, trim_hair, and trimming_hair).

(NONE of those aliases have a forum thread)

So to be consistent with those six existing aliases:
I suggest haircut and hair_cut also alias to hair_trimming.

( haircut has 137 posts.
hair_cut has 7 posts. )

(Personally I call them haircuts, but hair_trimming
implies to trimming_(grooming) and styling_hair ... so seems easier to stick with tag of hair_trimming)

Hoping for feedback (on below) before creating next (haircut-related) BUR.

Wandered across three tags for two (similar) THINGs:
THING ONE: Electric_shaver
THING TWO: Electric hair clippers

*

THING ONE: Electric_shaver
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_shaver
That wiki page says: "An electric shaver (also known as the ... electric razor,"
AND "Electric shavers fall into two main categories: foil or rotary-style."
FOIL example : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Oscillating_electric_razor.jpg
rotary example: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Philips_Norelco_9700_Rotary_Electric_Shaver_(30973817280).jpg

e621 tags:
1a) electric_shaver
1b) electric_razor

I prefer the term electric_shaver, (and so does Wikipedia with wikipage title of Electric_shaver) ...
so would prefer alias of electric_razor -> electric_shaver
(BUT electric razor currently implies to razor)

QUESTION #1 :What do people prefer???
alias electric_razor -> electric_shaver
OR
alias electric_shaver -> electric_razor ???

THING TWO: Electric hair clippers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair_clipper#Electric_clippers

hair_clipper tag was a mix of hairclip, hair_bow (and hair_tie), and electric hair clipper ...
(There are hair clippers that are NOT electric.)

e621 tags:
2a) electric_hair_clipper
(one device is singular "clipper", see the Wikipedia article)
(including "hair" in tag because of OTHER clippers:
hedge_clippers https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedge_trimmer (wikipedia:Hedge_clipper redirects to Hedge_trimmer)
nail_clipper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nail_clipper

(Changed two posts from electric_shaver TO electric_hair_clipper : post #3335859 and post #3335375

The main difference between THING ONE and THING TWO is
electric shavers are only for shaving (as far as i know)

while Electric hair clippers can have hair GUARDs of various lengths put on to trim hair to desired length
(although without-a-hair-guard hair clippers CAN be used for something very close to a shave)

electric clipper with short guard: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Electric_hair_clipper_(1).jpg
electric clipper with NO guard: (example at e621 post #3335375 )

Updated

With some of the artwork at e621, it is sometimes unclear if the device is a shaver or a clipper (usually because the head of the device is ambiguous)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hair_clipper#Electric_clippers
is in "Category:Cutting_tools" "Category:Hairdressing" etc

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_shaver
is in Category:Cutting_tools (and "Category:Razors") etc

Suggest if is unclear which type of electric hairtrim tool in artwork,
go for tag such as maybeelectric_haircut_tool.

And maybe have electric_razor (aka electric_shaver) AND electric_hair_clipper
both IMPLY to electric_haircut_tool (or equivalent).
